Start-up VLJ developer Excel-Jet is taking this saying to heart as it attempts to move its headquarters in exchange for local government financial support. Nearly two years ago, the Monument, Colo.-based company said it was moving to Guthrie, Okla., to take advantage of a $3 to $5 million incentive package from local and state resources.
Establishing a foothold in the UK has long been a goal of Swiss-originated Jet Aviation, now with headquarters in West Palm Beach, Fla. The international FBO chain recently achieved that goal, opening its newest base at suburban London Biggin Hill Airport, famous as a pivotal Spitfire action station during the Battle of Britain in 1940.

British environmental protesters targeted business aviation today when they blockaded the main entrances to the London-area airports at Biggin Hill and Farnborough. The demonstrations were an offshoot of a week-long protest staged at London Heathrow Airport. At Biggin Hill, passengers and crew had to be temporarily diverted through alternative entrances while police forcibly removed protesters who had chained themselves to the gates.
Honeywell TFE731 maintenance shops at Harrods Aviation in Farnborough, UK, and Sweden’s Volvo Aero have signed a service agreement combining their offerings. The result is a one-stop, heavy maintenance and overhaul team fully supporting the popular turbofan. Honeywell has designated Harrods’ engine shop a major service center, while Volvo Aero has offered heavy maintenance on the TFE731 Classic, -20, -40 and -60 variants.

Air Partner has signed an 80-year lease with the airport for a 115,000-sq-ft site on which to develop an almost $10 million high-security private-jet enclave.
London Biggin Hill Airport (Booth No. 1333) opened its new apron last month, significantly increasing available aircraft parking space to almost 270,000 sq ft. According to Robert Walters, the privately owned airport’s business development manager, the expansion will allow aircraft to be parked more safely and also increases capacity by some 60 percent.
The first of the new regional forums organized by the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA) will be staged at London Biggin Hill Airport on September 10. The event, which is being hosted by the Jet Aviation FBO on the south side of the airport, will consist of sessions covering regulatory and operational issues, as well as a small exhibition.

The new owner of the London Heliport, von Essen Hotels, has appointed UK helicopter charter operator PremiAir to manage the site. The heliport, located at Battersea on the south bank of the River Thames, will be extensively redeveloped following a February 8 deal in which von Essen Hotels purchased the site from the Weston group.
