NetJets received approval from the London City Airport Authority to fly its Bombardier Global 5000s and 6000s into the airfield, which requires aircraft and crews to be authorized to fly the 5.5-degree approach there. Bombardier received steep-approach approval for the Global 5000/6000 at London City in July last year. NetJets received accreditation by performing “rigorous” test flights with successful takeoffs and landings at London City with its Globals. The company is now in the final stages of training all NetJets Global crewmembers to use the airport.

Charter/management provider ExcelAire announced during EBACE that it has received approval to operate its five Embraer Legacy 600s into London City Airport (LCY). Located in the heart of London, LCY is the closest and most convenient airport for easy access to London’s financial district.
Embraer recently added hot-and-high approval to an expanding list of operational capabilities of its Lineage 1000.
The high-altitude takeoff and landing operation tests were completed in February with approvals granted in March by both Brazil’s ANAC and the FAA. The certification allows operation at airports as hot and high as La Paz, Bolivia, where the elevation is 13,357 feet msl and the temperature in January, during summer in the southern hemisphere, can top 110-degrees F. The new performance capability will be offered as an option, initially to Brazilian and U.S. operators.
BA CityFlyer began flying its first Embraer E190 out of London City Airport last month, on a regular route to Edinburgh, Scotland. The E190 recently gained approval to fly the steep approach into the London Stolport, where Switzerland’s Baboo flew the type’s inaugural LCY service on February 10 from Geneva.
Dassault Falcon received FAA approval that allows the Falcon 7X to perform steep approaches using slopes of up to six degrees. Britain’s newest FBO, Marshall Business Aviation Centre, has been open for almost five months and is already fulfilling its owner’s hopes of drawing more traffic to Cambridge. The £5 million facility combines a new executive terminal with two adjoining hangars providing more than 50,000 sq ft of space for aircraft maintenance.
Embraer’s 100-seat E190 in late March formally began its campaign to gain certification for flights into and out of London City Airport (LCY). The certification, expected by Embraer near the end of this year, would not immediately apply to the Lineage 1000–the executive transport that uses the E190’s airframe. However, Embraer plans to pursue Lineage certification for LCY once it finishes the process for the E190.
The ATR 72-500 was approved to start operations at London City Airport in early February and has entered service with Irish regional airline Aer Arann on its route to the Isle of Man. The UK approval process requires a series of test flights to establish that the aircraft and operator can cope with the downtown airport’s 5.5-deg approach and its 3,900-foot runway, while also meeting strict noise limits.
