The Civil Air Navigation Services Organization (Canso), Airports Council International (ACI) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced in Rome on June 25 that they will soon coordinate efforts aimed at driving aviation system improvements.
European industry experts have drawn a line in the sand well ahead of an EU proposal to lift the ban on carrying liquids aboard a commercial aircraft that is set to take effect in April 2013.
One of the airports most conveniently placed for access to the northeast side of London, where the main Olympic venue is situated, is Stansted. Located right next to the venue, London City will be in high demand, and airports such as Southend, Luton and Biggin Hill also are likely to prove popular with business/private aircraft operators and owners.
London Biggin Hill Airport (Stand 759) will open its new 4,800-sq-ft hangar next month. Situated next to the main terminal building, it will also offer 54,000 sq ft of additional ramp space for aircraft parking, with plenty of space to accommodate widebody jets. Several fully serviced offices are available for rent in the hangar and also will be available on a short-term basis for operators.
Dassault’s Falcon 2000LX has been granted approval to operate at London City Airport (LCY). Located in the heart of London, the airport is noted for its short runway (4,327 feet for landing and 3,934 feet for takeoff), and aircraft and their crews must demonstrate exacting performance to receive approval to use it.
London Biggin Hill Airport has a new managing director and she comes from Dubai. From March 1, Jenny Munro will takeover from Peter Lonergan, who is retiring after 16 years in the job.
London Biggin Hill Airport (Booth No. 953) has started a new development program. The airport will add a new 54,000-sq-ft parking/ramp area for business aircraft adjacent to the passenger terminal by mid-June; a new double-span hangar for business aircraft by early 2011; and a new hotel in time for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
NetJets Europe has become the first operator permitted to fly the Falcon 7X trijet into London City Airport (LCY), which requires special approval for the downtown airfield’s 5.5-deg steep approach. The fractional ownership provider last year flew nearly 5,000 flights to and from the airport, making London City the fourth most popular destination in the operator’s fleet.
ExcelAire (Stand Nos. 908/200) has received UK Civil Aviation Authority approval to operate its Embraer Legacy 600s into London City Airport (LCY) and is offering charter services effective immediately.
