The UK’s Coventry Airport closed suddenly on Tuesday and at press time appeared unlikely to reopen. The airport’s private owners closed the facility after Britain’s Customs and Revenue department went to the high court seeking an order to liquidate the airport company–a move that normally results from non-payment of taxes.

Tag Aviation has appealed a local government ruling last month that blocked its application to increase annual movements at the London-area Farnborough Airport from 28,000 to 50,000. The central government’s Department for Communities and Local Government received the appeal on Monday and this will likely order a public inquiry to begin next year.

Ocean Sky Aviation plans to build a network of FBOs across Europe in the next 12 months. Ocean Sky currently has FBOs at London Luton Airport, Manchester and Prestwick in Scotland. Earlier this year, Ocean Sky received $48 million in fresh investment when it was acquired by German charter operator Triple Alpha of Dusseldorf, Germany.

TAG Aviation has applied to raise the annual limit on aircraft movements at London-area Farnborough Airport from 28,000 to 50,000. The company, which operates the UK airport under a 99-year lease, is also requesting an increase in the limit on movements on weekends and public holidays from 5,000 to 8,900. Last year, TAG won approval to increase weekend movements from 2,500 to 5,000.

The UK’s Coventry Airport has opened a new executive jet center and, in a bid to boost business aviation traffic, offered free ground handling to operators during the month of July. The privately owned airport has decided to focus on business aviation and air freight as its two core activities after being denied permission to develop a new terminal for airline passengers.

London Luton Airport has a new FBO in the shape of the new Ocean Sky Jet Centre, which opened last month. The facility is the first of several FBOs that the UK-based group intends to open in Europe.

Ocean Sky is to open a new FBO at London Luton Airport on March 30. The UK company has signed a lease on the facility formerly occupied by Harrods Aviation before it developed its current facilities at the airport. This is situated on Luton’s south ramp and is immediately parallel to the runway.
