Thales’ offer in cockpit, cabin and air traffic control (ATC) electronics is evolving into a comprehensive “connected aircraft” concept. The company (Hall 4 Innovation Zone A21) is studying how flight-deck connectivity can piggyback on the satellite communications equipment installed for the passenger cabin. Here at the Farnborough Airshow for the first time is the Avionics 2020 cockpit demonstrator, featuring cockpit-pilot datalink communications (CPDLC).

Greenwich AeroGroup is in the process of forming a dealer network for installation and certification of LiveAero systems.

LiveAero is a development of LiveTV of Melbourne, Fla. According to the company, it is the only fixed-wing and rotorcraft data broadband solution that works everywhere in the world, including remote oceanic and polar regions, for passengers requiring smartphone, tablet or laptop connectivity.

Greenwich AeroGroup (Stand 5013) has announced that it is forming a dealer network for the sales, installation and certification of the LiveAero broadband airborne connectivity system for fixed-wing airplanes and rotorcraft. Based upon the Iridium OpenPort broadband technology, the system–developed by Florida-based LiveTV–works anywhere in the world and provides a WiFi-enabled bidirectional data speed of 134 kbps.

The era of the Airfone air-to-ground radiotelephone system comes to an end on December 31 when Aircell, the new owner of the Airfone network, plans to shut the service down. Aircell purchased the Airfone network from LiveTV earlier this year and will use the Airfone frequencies to expand and meet growing demand for its Gogo and Gogo Biz airborne broadband Internet services. The Airfone frequencies are adjacent to those used by the Gogo service.

Aircell recently completed its acquisition of Airfone from LiveTV. The agreement includes LiveTV’s 1-MHz air-to-ground spectrum license, as well as the Airfone in-flight communications service, network infrastructure and back-office operational assets. To expand capabilities, Aircell’s Gogo in-flight Internet service will branch into Airfone’s frequencies, which are adjacent to those currently used by Gogo and Gogo Biz. To accommodate this expansion, the Airfone service will be permanently decommissioned on December 31.

JetBlue’s LiveTV has selected Greenwich AeroGroup to distribute its OpenPort-Aero broadband satcom system, which runs on the Iridium network. Greenwich AeroGroup and its Atlantic Aero, Western Aircraft and Summit Aviation facilities will sell, install and support the systems, as will other Greenwich-approved service providers. The first installation should begin in the third quarter, leading to STCs for a variety of aircraft, including helicopters, turboprops and jets.

Greenwich AeroGroup and its affiliates have agreed to sell, support and install the Iridium OpenPort-Aero broadband aviation communications platform on business aviation aircraft, including helicopters. It expects installations to begin in the third quarter of 2012.

Greenwich AeroGroup and its affiliates have agreed to sell, support and install the Iridium OpenPort-Aero broadband aviation communications platform on business aviation aircraft. LiveTV, a wholly owned subsidiary of JetBlue Airways that introduced the system to airline passengers several years ago, signed a distribution agreement with Greenwich to branch out into business aviation today at EBACE. Iridium OpenPort-Aero works across the planet, including over oceans and the poles. Greenwich AeroGroup expects to begin installations in the third quarter.
