Cessna 560XL, White Plains, N.Y., April 15, 2008–The Citation Excel was landing at Westchester County Airport when the left landing gear collapsed, followed immediately by the nose and right gears. The twinjet skidded for approximately 960 feet and incurred substantial damage to the lower fuselage before coming to a stop on the runway near Taxiway C.
Socata TBM700, Truckee, Calif., Dec. 13, 2009–The turboprop single crashed into woods during a landing attempt at Truckee-Tahoe Airport in fog and light snow. According to the pilot, he determined there was not enough runway left after exiting a fog bank and attempted a go-around. He added power, but the aircraft could not climb above the trees past the departure end of Runway 28.

Dassault Falcon 20, Jamestown, N.Y., Dec. 21 2008–The aircraft was substantially damaged when it overran the runway while landing at Chautauqua County/Jamestown Airport in icy conditions around 1 a.m. The operator, Ameristar Jet Charter, reported that a Notam issued by the airport for the accident runway was in effect reporting thin loose snow over patchy ice.
Capt. Dominic James and first officer Zoe Cupit had a tough decision to make after three missed approaches during their attempt to land at Norfolk Island in the South Pacific. They were flying a medical transport–a female patient and her husband–from Apia, Western Samoa, to Melbourne, Australia.
Coincidental to the early taste of winter weather the Northeast received in mid-October, NBAA–in conjunction with local airport user groups and state business aviation associations–sponsored a pair of cold-weather operational seminars aimed at exploring the challenges and threats presented by in-flight and ground icing, as well as runway contamination.
The Falcon 7X in August received FAA approval for steep approaches, after a process that involved testing the Dassault large-cabin business jet at slopes up to 8.65 degrees. EASA approved the trijet for steep approaches last year and the UK CAA approved the 7X for approaches to London City Airport (LCY) in February of this year.
Honeywell yesterday received TSO approval for SmartRunway and SmartLanding, which are both software upgrades for the company’s Mark V and Mark VII enhanced ground proximity warning systems (EGPWS) that can help reduce runway excursions and incursions. The systems require just one hour of aircraft downtime for installation and minimal pilot training, Honeywell said.
Pilatus PC-12/47, Bridgeport, Conn., June 12, 2009– The fractionally owned single-engine turboprop was substantially damaged when it struck a blast fence on landing at Igor Sikorsky Memorial Airport.
Dassault Falcon 20, Jamestown, N.Y., Dec. 21, 2008–The Falcon 20, registered as N165TW to Sierra America and operated by Ameristar Jet Charter, was substantially damaged when the aircraft left the runway while landing at Chautauqua County/ Jamestown Airport. The charter operator reported the jet overran the runway and came to a stop after the nose gear struck a snow berm.
