Aircare Crews Staffing, based in Olympia, Wash., announced during the 2013 NBAA Flight Attendants/Flight Technicians Conference that it now rewards its contracted pilots and flight attendants with free annual Aircare FACTS emergency procedures training. The program is designed to offset the annual cost of training often paid by freelance pilots and flight attendants who work regularly for Aircare Crews Staffing.
Two $2,100 American Eurocopter scholarship winners will attend a comprehensive training program aimed at improving the safety of air medical transport. Josh Weiland, safety officer for Sanford AirMed Enterprise, based in Sioux Falls, S.D., and Peter Carros, safety manager for Geisinger Health Systems in Danville, Pa., will attend the Safety Management Training Academy conducted annually by the Association of Air Medical Services.

The panel discussed revised export controls for aircraft and gas-turbine engines that took effect in April.
The U.S. state of Georgia’s governor Nathan Deal is leading a business mission to the Paris Air Show–the state’s first ever participation–from June 16-19. Industry giants such as Boeing, Raytheon, Pratt & Whitney, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman operate in Georgia (Hall 3 AB 97), one of the top five states for aerospace employment. The state recently published a report on the economic impact of Georgia’s aerospace industry with the Georgia Department of Economic Development responsible for planning and mobilizing state resources to attract new investment.
Officials for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters charged Republic Airlines management last month with violating training rules and the recommendations of its FAA check airmen by firing the president of the carrier’s local Teamsters chapter, Craig Moffatt. In retaliation, the Teamsters pulled union volunteers involved in joint safety programs, crew scheduling, training and other functions for all three of Republic Airways’ regional subsidiaries–Republic Airlines, Chautauqua Airlines and Shuttle America.
Paris Air Show organizers have redoubled the event’s emphasis on recruiting new talent to the aerospace sector. “We [the industry] need to invest a lot in young people if we are to be ready for increasing production rates in the coming years,” said SIAE chairman and CEO Emeric d’Arcimoles.

The commercial aircraft MRO market is forecast by Visiongain to experience growth over the next decade, providing numerous business opportunities.
GA Telesis and Finnair have entered into an agreement in which GA Telesis has acquired part of Finnair Engine Services and will employ 80 engine-service professionals from Finnair’s existing workforce. The deal comprises the sale of assets and transfer of personnel to GA Telesis Engine Services (Gates). Gates has simultaneously entered into a long-term lease of all of the engine maintenance and test cell facilities from Finnair.
Vector Aerospace has added a new 45,000-sq-ft office and hangar complex at its Andalusia, Ala., helicopter MRO facility. The added space doubles the size of Vector’s facility and will fit up to 20 aircraft concurrently, according to the company, as well as facilitate implementation of lean manufacturing processes that will reduce turn-around time for customers. Vector plans to expand the Andalusia workforce to 170 employees from the current 140.
