China’s new ARJ21-700 regional jet appears on track to meet a revised timeline to achieve certification and first deliveries by year-end, according to the latest reports from its manufacturer. If the state-controlled airframer achieves that goal, it will happen barely a year after the 90-seater made its public debut at last November’s Airshow China in Zhuhai.

An Embraer E190 operated by China's Henan Airlines overshot the runway at Yichun City's Lindu Airport in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang, killing 43 of the airplane's 96 occupants, according to Chinese state-run media. The crash happened at 9:36 p.m. Tuesday after an otherwise uneventful 45-minute flight from Heilongjiang's capital, Harbin, Xinhua news agency reported.

Chinese aerospace conglomerate AVIC I unveiled the new ARJ21-700 regional jet during a rollout ceremony in Shanghai today for a select group of official guests and government-approved media. Officials used the occasion to reveal a new Chinese name for the 90-seat airplane–Xiang Feng, or Flying Phoenix–and announce a 100-unit commitment from Kunpeng Airlines. China’s Shenzhen Airlines and Mesa Air Group of the U.S.

Mesa Air Group expected three of its Bombardier CRJ200s to enter service with the newly christened KunPeng Airlines by the end of this month. All three airplanes came from Mesa’s U.S. fleet, from which it continues gradually to shed 50-seat jets and de Havilland Dash 8 turboprops in favor of 70- and 86-seat RJs.
