The Airbus Corporate Jet Center (ACJC) has become the first completion center to install and activate a global communication suite (GCS) on a single-aisle Airbus. According to the company, Panasonic’s Ku-band antenna provides “superior” performance at high latitudes and in the equatorial region, with the Internet support necessary to operate an office or provide robust entertainment. Using only a single antenna, ACJC’s unidentified Middle Eastern client will be able to watch real-time TV from all over the world, enjoying the same type of entertainment at 35,000 feet that he would at home.

Installed in close collaboration with Panasonic, the system’s Ku-Band antenna provides “superior performance” at high latitudes and in the equatorial region, offering high-speed data and live TV anywhere around the world. Ku-band antennas are typically used by airlines, though ACJC said demand is picking up for this technology in the business jet market.
Independent completion and refurbishment center BaySys Technologies of Melfa, Va., has concluded that service over a Ku-band satellite system “provides a significant service improvement for its customers as compared to the Inmarsat-based data solutions.”
BaySys is therefore developing a solution to integrate the Ku-band satellite antenna system into its aircraft offerings for cabin communication service.
ViaSat, a satellite communication network and equipment provider based in Carlsbad, Calif., announced Tuesday its acquisition of the SkyLink airborne broadband service from Arinc and the transfer of previous SkyLink business jet subscribers to ViaSat’s Yonder high-speed Internet access network.

Israeli satcom antenna maker Starling Advanced Communication announced a deal with EMS Defense & Space Systems, a division of EMS Technologies, to develop, manufacture and market a high-speed Ku-band antenna aimed at the U.S. air transport market.
German firm QEST (Booth No. 4672) is here at NBAA presenting its line of compact satellite communications antennas with new superconducting sensor and micro-cooling technology. The company said the antennas offer about twice the performance of existing models at half the size.
