Jon Beatty, the former president and CEO of International Aero Engines, will take over as the new president and CEO at the Flight Safety Foundation, effective April 21. Along with his recent experience with IAE, he held executive positions at Pratt & Whitney, BF Goodrich and AlliedSignal Aerospace. “He brings an international executive perspective that will be instrumental in moving the foundation into its next chapter as the leading voice of aviation safety around the world,” said FSF board of governors chairman David McMillan.

GA Innovation China has passed its audit by the Aviation Suppliers Association (ASA) and its quality system is accredited and able to operate to ASA-100 in the People’s Republic of China. A joint venture between Air China and GA Telesis, GA Innovation China serves hundreds of aviation maintenance organizations supporting Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, McDonnell Douglas and Embraer aircraft and components as well as CFM International, General Electric, Honeywell, International Aero Engines, Pratt & Whitney and Rolls-Royce jet engines and components.

International Aero Engines has launched its new Pure-V designation for V2500 engines maintained to IAE’s build standards, the company announced here in Dubai. A Pure-V-designated engine contains IAE-approved parts and repairs throughout the entire engine.

The NTSB is investigating the October 15 failure of an International Aero Engines V2500 engine aboard a Spirit Airlines Airbus A319 20 minutes after takeoff en route from Dallas to Atlanta. An initial investigation of the A319 determined the failure was contained within the engine’s outer casing. The aircraft landed safely.

International Aero Engines (IAE) will begin building the first engine for the Brazilian KC-390 multirole tanker/transport aircraft the week following the Paris Air Show.

The event kicks off the action for an engine program that is celebrating its 30th birthday this year. For the Airbus A320 series application, the IAE V2500 is heading for its highest annual production run ever, with delivery of more than 500 engines planned this year and next.

Pratt & Whitney president Dave Hess, celebrating an “incredible 12 months” of commercial engine activity, has responded to CFM International’s claims that its Leap engine for the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 Max have materials technology leadership over the Pratt & Whitney PurePower geared turbofan.

IAE chief executive Jon Beatty sees a market for another 1,000 V2500s by the time production of the A320neo supplants that of the current A320 in 2018.

Airbus’s choice of the Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan on the A320neo and Rolls-Royce’s subsequent divesture in engine joint-venture IAE might have signaled to some the beginning of the end of the V2500 turbofan.
