“Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor gloom of night…” With apologies to the U.S. Postal Service, that saying could have easily been the pre-Super Bowl mantra for every Indianapolis-area FBO. Remembering how a last-minute snowstorm blindsided last year’s Dallas-area FBOs, the folks in the Indy area weren’t taking any chances for a late blitz by Mother Nature.
Cessna Aircraft will position mobile service units (MSUs) in support of seven 2012 special events. Starting with the recent Super Bowl, additional events to be covered include the Daytona 500, NCAA Final Four in New Orleans, The Masters (Augusta, Ga.), Kentucky Derby (Louisville, Ky.), Indianapolis 500 and the Summer Olympics in London. MSUs perform scheduled maintenance, including phase inspections and maintenance steering group (MSG) tasked-based inspection documents.
Less than 12 hours after the Giants beat the Patriots on Sunday at the Indianapolis-hosted Super Bowl, area FBOs were just beginning to be able to enjoy their own victory celebrations. “The weather was great. The people were great. It was a fabulous experience,” said Andrea Montgomery, co-owner of Indianapolis Executive-based Montgomery Aviation. “We had to do a little de-icing at around midnight. We had pretty much everyone out of here by 2:30 a.m.
Comlux Aviation Services and Signature Flight Support are hosting a party for aircrews and their guests visiting Indianapolis this Sunday for the big game. Signature will be providing transportation to the Comlux facilities at Indianapolis International Airport (IND) where half of an entire hangar will be devoted to the party. Comlux USA, a maintenance, overhaul, completion and refurbishment center in Indianapolis, was back at work on Monday following a fire a day earlier that damaged the roof and one corner of its maintenance hangar at Indianapolis International Airport. The extent of fire damage to the facility and to four business jets in Hangar 5 is still being assessed, Comlux Aviation Services division CEO David Edinger told AIN.
The Indianapolis Police Department’s four helicopters have been grounded since earlier this year after its aviation insurance was allowed to expire. Police officials cited budget constraints.
Million Air has purchased one of Signature Flight Support’s two FBOs at Indianapolis International Airport. After Signature bought seven FBOs from Hawker Beechcraft last year, the U.S. Department of Justice issued a consent decree requiring the FBO chain to divest itself of one of its two facilities at Indianapolis. The Hawker Beechcraft facilities included an FBO at Indianapolis, where Signature has long operated an FBO.
