The FAA announced today that 149 federal contract towers will close beginning April 7 as part of the agency’s plan to trim its budget by $637 million in Fiscal Year 2013 under sequestration. Two weeks ago, the FAA released a list of 238 towers potentially facing closure.
Hillsboro Aviation has come a long way since it opened in 1980 as a helicopter training school. Independent FBO network Paragon Aviation Group has added five members: Maguire Aviation at Van Nuys Airport (VNY) in California, Aero Air at Portland-Hillsboro Airport (HIO) in Oregon, Galvin Flying Service at Boeing Field/King County International Airport (BFI) in Seattle, First Aviation Services at Teterboro Airport (TEB) in New Jersey and XJet at Centennial Airport (APA) in Colorado.
Seven former Million Air FBOs have joined in a marketing partnership with Odyssey Aviation Bahamas to form a new Odyssey Aviation FBO network. The seven new Odyssey FBOs are located at New Orleans (Lakefront Airport); Asheville, N.C.; Charleston, S.C.; Chicago (Midway Airport); Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio; and Lafayette, La. Odyssey Aviation Bahamas was also a Million Air franchisee until early last year.
Independent maintenance provider Global Aviation of Hillsboro, Ore., has promoted Brian Lockhart to vice president. Lockhart has worked for Global Aviation for 13 years, most recently as director of maintenance for the company, which offers maintenance, charter/management and FBO services at Portland-Hillsboro Airport.
Seven FBOs have left the Million Air franchise system and switched to a new brand name, Odyssey Aviation, having joined in a marketing partnership with the Odyssey Aviation Bahamas FBO at Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau. Odyssey Bahamas also used to be a Million Air franchisee.
