Hong Kong-based aircraft management company Metrojet (Booth H418) provided an update here at ABACE 2014 on three joint ventures it announced at last year’s expo that launched its current growth initiatives. “We built a very strong presence in Hong Kong, and now we’re ready to go from local to regional,” said Metrojet CEO Björn Näf.

This week China’s Metrojet , a leading operator and maintenance provider in Asia, has announcedhas signed a partnership agreement with The Leather Institute of Red Bank, New Jersey. Under the agreement The Leather Institute will provide its aircraft interior care and leather component refinishing services at Metrojet’s facilities.

Located in a 15,000-sq-ft hangar at Zhuhai Airport, Metrojet Hanxing now offers the same full range of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services–in addition to authorizations for the same list of OEMs–as that at Metrojet’s facility at Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok International Airport.

Airshow China last month provided yet more evidence of how eager the business aviation industry is to tap the enormous potential growth in China. Every major business aircraft maker made the trip to Zhuhai in the prosperous southern province of Guangdong, and their products formed one of the more prominent clusters among the 80 or so aircraft on display.

The ninth edition of the biennial Airshow China opens at Zhuhai Airport in the southern province of Guangdong on November 13, with organizers promising the largest event since its start in 1996. Some 650 exhibitors from 39 countries have flocked to mainland China’s largest airshow, with many of the 80 aircraft present due to take part in the flying display before it closes on November 18.

As general aviation slowly takes hold in China, light aircraft manufacturer Cirrus has partnered with city and airport authorities to establish a new FBO at Zhuhai Airport. The 30,000-sq-ft facility was completed in November, and the backers held an opening ceremony during Airshow China.

Bombardier CRJ200, Inner MongolIa, China, Nov. 21, 2004–Only 12 seconds after taking off from Baotou en route to Shanghai, the CRJ operated by China Eastern Airlines as Flight Mu5210 crashed into an ice-covered lake in the Nanhai Park, killing the six crewmembers, 47 passengers and apparently two park workers on the ground.
