The Airbus Corporate Jet Center (ACJC) has become the first completion center to install and activate a global communication suite (GCS) on a single-aisle Airbus. According to the company, Panasonic’s Ku-band antenna provides “superior” performance at high latitudes and in the equatorial region, with the Internet support necessary to operate an office or provide robust entertainment. Using only a single antenna, ACJC’s unidentified Middle Eastern client will be able to watch real-time TV from all over the world, enjoying the same type of entertainment at 35,000 feet that he would at home.

At Helitech 2011, Blue Sky Network (BSN) exhibited a renewed line of tracking devices that can help flight dispatchers to know, in real-time, where their fleet’s helicopters are. Through the SkyRouter web portal, they can receive regular updates on the aircraft’s altitude, heading and location, explained hardware engineer Steve Larson.

The new TopFlight satellite data unit (SDU) from Thales is set to be installed on a new-build business aircraft later this year by an as yet unidentified manufacturer. According to the France-based electronics group, the equipment should be certified to support wireless communications for passengers by the second quarter of next year.
