Bombardier Aerospace’s Safety Standdown Asia returned to Asia yesterday for a third time. It was held in conjunction with the ABACE show at the Shanghai Marriott Hotel Hongqiao. Free for participants, Safety Standdown Asia “provides pilots, aircrew and flight departments with insights into the factors that precipitate errors in judgment and highlights ways to mitigate them,” according to Bombardier (Chalet 380). The seminar combines both knowledge-based and skill-based training with a focus on human factors.
Global War on Error
“War on Error” is the theme of the 2005 Safety Standdown seminar being held by Bombardier Learjet from October 25 through 27 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Wichita. The objective of this annual three-day conference is to improve corporate aviation safety, and the topics covered are applicable to all business jets regardless of manufacturer.
Traditionally, the term “safety standdown” refers to a temporary halt to military operations following a string of accidents. It is an opportunity to stop the frenetic pace of normal operations, take stock of what is and isn’t being done correctly and approach renewed operations with a greater degree of care and preparedness.
