In a city that already had two interior completion and refurbishment centers, one more might have been one too many. But rather than fight for every job, the three facilities at Tucson International Airport– DunnAir Business Jet Completion, Evergreen Air Center and Hamilton Aerospace Technologies–have decided that a cooperative agreement would benefit all.

The Jet Center Aviation Group recently announced it has signed a long-term lease with the airport authority at Jacksonville (Fla.) International Airport and will build a new FBO there. The facility will be the fourth for the small Florida chain, which also has facilities at Hollywood International, Miami International and Daytona Beach International Airports.
The FAA is reviewing a proposed Part 150 noise compatibility program for Toledo Express Airport, Ohio. A public comment period ends March 24. No later than July 22, the FAA is scheduled to approve or disapprove the proposed program. Noise-footprint maps have already been approved. At a meeting on September 20, the NBAA board of directors decided to re-schedule the association’s 54th annual convention and trade show for December 12 to 14 in New Orleans. The association’s annual meeting of members has been scheduled for October 31 in Washington. The annual convention and meeting was originally scheduled for September 18 to 20 in New Orleans, but was canceled following the terrorist attacks of September 11.
CJ Systems Aviation Group is expanding its Baptist Hospital LifeFlight aeromedical program in Pensacola, Fla., with a second base at Mobile, Ala. Baptist Hospital and CJ Systems have taken over responsibility for air-transport services from an operation formerly managed by the University of South Alabama Medical Center.
EVASWorldwide, the Ramsey, N.J.-based distributor for the Emergency Vision Assurance System (EVAS), has appointed Business Jet Aircraft Completions (BJAC) as an installation center. BJAC has service facilities in Hartford, Conn., Montreal and Tucson. BJAC will now offer EVAS clients its international mobile technical-service teams. These mobile teams travel to a client’s home base and perform system installations.
Two years after Hurricane Katrina destroyed Lakefront Airport in New Orleans, the FAA control tower has reopened. The new tower is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on 119.9. Currently, Million Air is the sole FBO on the airport, although another FBO is getting ready to open, according to the airport’s fire department. Million Air was scheduled to break ground on a new permanent FBO terminal at Lakefront by the end of last month.
Ken Allison, owner of a growing chain of Million Air FBOs, has added a seventh facility to his stable, Million Air Charleston at South Carolina’s Charleston International Airport. Groundbreaking for the new Million Air FBO facility took place last year, and the facility opened late last month. The new FBO offers a spacious atrium lobby, technologically advanced conference rooms and separate entrances and shop space for based customers.
Groundbreaking for the FBO at Houston’s newest airport, Houston Executive, took place on June 11. The FBO, Henriksen Jet Center, should be completed next year and will feature a two-story 48,000-sq-ft terminal building with a theater room and a 26,000-sq-ft hangar. Long-range plans also call for extending the existing 5,050-foot runway to 7,604 feet.
Lou Pepper, president of Atlantic Aviation, today told AIN he was “saddened and disheartened” by the lack of news about how the Atlantic FBO at New Orleans Lakefront Airport weathered Hurricane Katrina. “You’d think this was 1955 rather than 2005,” he said.
