The super-midsize Gulfstream G280 recently set 15 new city-pair speed records as part of the company’s reliability demonstration program, the Savannah, Ga.-based aircraft manufacturer announced today. To date, the G280 has established 22 speed records since setting its first in May.

NetJets opened a new exclusive-use facility for its customers at Atlanta DeKalb-Peachtree Airport yesterday. The fractional aircraft provider has signed a long-term lease with Atlantic Aviation for the 2,800-sq-ft facility, which includes customer and crew lounges, a conference and business center and flight-planning facilities. According to NetJets, DeKalb-Peachtree is one of its most popular domestic destinations, with approximately 4,000 NetJets flights coming in and out of the airport annually.
Gulfstream Aerospace has announced plans to increase employment at its Brunswick, Ga., facility by approximately 20 percent in the next year to support a growing volume of completions work. The site currently has 174 employees, including nearly 90 technicians. “Adding about 35 positions is significant growth for Gulfstream Brunswick and a boost to the community as a whole,” said Mark Burns, president of Gulfstream Product Support. Gulfstream Brunswick is home to a completions center and service center and has approximately 55,000 sq ft of hangar space.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has advanced airspace adjustment efforts in about a third of the regions designated under its multi-year Optimization of Airspace and Procedures in the Metroplex (OAPM) effort.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation has awarded more than $2 million in state funds to Macon County Airport (1A5) in Franklin. The funds will be used to rebuild the aircraft parking ramp. Richard Walls, the state’s aviation director, said the improvement–along with a recently completed runway extension–will help serve the airport’s future needs. According to state accounting, the airport, which sees approximately 25 operations a day, has a total impact of nearly $8 million a year and supports more than 120 jobs.
Gulfstream Aerospace will not disclose how many wide-cabin G650s it delivered last year until January 25, when parent company General Dynamics will hold its fourth-quarter investor conference call. Following FAA provisional certification of the G650 in mid-November, the Savannah, Ga.-based aircraft manufacturer reconfirmed plans to deliver 10 to 12 G650s by the end of 2011. Investors are keen to find out if that target was met, especially in light of Gulfstream’s increasing importance to General Dynamics’s future growth.
Envision Aviation has a vision for paint schemes that it is translating to the exterior paint of business jets. “We’ve done two airplanes and are most definitely open for business,” said Envision president Heath Moore of his newly defined company.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has greenlighted an 890-acre expansion project at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport in Savannah, Ga., that would increase Gulfstream’s footprint at the field. The expansion affects the area’s wetlands, requiring U.S. government approval to construct a new taxiway and realign Gulfstream Road.
Landmark Aviation officially began operations last month at its newest facility at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). “We will immediately begin capital improvements to upgrade the FBO, including both the terminal and ramp, and will be looking to hire additional service employees from the local community,” said Landmark president and CEO Dan Bucaro.
