That’s the word from Amy Sanzobrin, scheduler for Volkswagen of America. Sanzobrin reports that in scheduling a recent flight from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, to Los Angeles, U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) in Los Angeles approved an overflight direct to Los Angeles. But, being cautious, Sanzobrin contacted the San Diego customs office and was told that by no means would they give their approval.

The FAA is reviewing a proposed revision to the approved noise-compatibility program that was submitted for Burbank Bob Hope Airport (BUR), Calif. The agency, which approved the original program in November 2000, plans to rule on the revision by September 7. Public comments must be submitted by May 10 to the FAA airports division’s Western Pacific Region office (telephone [310] 725-3614).

The Burbank, Calif., airport authority is considering using an FAA noise study to expand an overnight curfew at Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport (BUR). The draft proposal is contained in an ongoing FAA Part 161 noise study typically required before an airport can implement aircraft operating restrictions. The Burbank proposal would close the airport to all operations– regardless of aircraft noise level–between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Mireille’s Inflight Catering, headquartered at Long Beach, Calif., last month opened a fully equipped business aviation catering operation at San Francisco International Airport. The 1,500-sq-ft facility is under the direction of Mireille operations manager Eric Youe and offers catering services to San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose International Airports.

Next year a new Million Air FBO is slated to open at San Bernardino International Airport in California. Construction is scheduled to begin in December. Million Air San Bernardino is being built on the northwest corner of the airport and features a 32,000-sq-ft hangar, a 40,000-sq-ft executive terminal and support facility and 10 acres of ramp space. The FBO’s fuel farm will be completed after the FBO is finished.

Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin have drawn flak for a deal they struck with NASA to base an executive Boeing 767-200 and two Gulfstream Vs at the space agency’s Moffett Field, minutes away from Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, Calif.

Atlantic Aviation and its owner, Macquarie Infrastructure, plan to rebrand a number of the recently acquired FBOs under the Atlantic Aviation brand. This includes 24 Mercury Air Centers/ Corporate Wings facilities purchased from Allied Capital and the two San Jose Jet Center FBOs at Mineta San Jose International Airport in San Jose, Calif.

Summer days can be quite warm in northern California’s inland valleys, even those that lie fairly near the coast. By evening, though, the warm, moist air is cooled by the bitterly cold Pacific Ocean, resulting in a thick bank of offshore fog. From miles out to sea, the fog begins its eastward march, covering the beaches and then the hills of the Coast Range, where it settles like misty lakes in the inland valleys.

Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin are being criticized for a deal they struck with NASA to base a VIP Boeing 767-200 and two Gulfstream Vs at the space agency's Moffett Field, minutes away from Google's headquarters in Mountain View, Calif. Moffett Field was transferred from the Navy to NASA in the early 1990s, but community opposition has prevented expanding the airport's use to general aviation or air cargo operations.
