Hughes 369A, Moulton, Ala., May 13, 2007 – The commercial pilot was killed and the helicopter was destroyed when it crashed in the Bankhead National Forest in Alabama in VMC. The pilot had just bought the helicopter and was ferrying it from Florida to Kansas. He had stopped for fuel at Sylacauga, Ala.

While small piston helicopters continue to dominate the initial training scene with their relatively simple designs and low cost of operation, pilots seeking recurrent or advanced training in larger and more expensive turbine helicopters are more likely than ever to be flying a simulator instead of the real thing, according to industry experts.

Helicopter Adventures has opened a new flight-training facility. The new building, located at Space Coast Regional Airport, near Titusville, Fla., adds four large classrooms and 7,000 sq ft of office and administrative space to the existing school.

The pilot training school, which claims to be the only one certified to both FAA and JAA standards, trains some 250 students annually from 50 different countries.
