Air India will expand MRO capabilities at its Mumbai, India facility to include GE90 engine overhaul. The current schedule calls for the Mumbai facility to be certified for basic GE90 MRO by next year. According to the company, Air India plans to build a new MRO facility in Nagpur, India, that will include GE90 testing capabilities.

GE Aircraft Engines plans to build 100 GEnx engines this year and double that number next year, as the company accelerates production to meet a demand for 700 units from now through 2013. Now flying engines on the Boeing 747-8 and the 787 Dreamliner, GE–as of June 1–had built 28 GEnx-2Bs for the Boeing 747-8 and some 20 for the GEnx-1Bs for the 787.
The June 16 first flight of the fifth Boeing 787 Dreamliner (ZA005) also marked the first time a pair of GE Aircraft Engines' GEnx-1B turbofans powered an airplane to altitude on their own. Captains Mike Bryan and Mike Carriker flew the airplane for three hours and 48 minutes, and reported no anomalies.

Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies (ADAT) will take a central role in maintaining General Electric engines–including those ordered by Etihad Airways here at the Paris Air Show on Tuesday. ADAT, which is part of the Mubadala group, has also entered into an agreement with International Aero Engines (IAE) to become the first IAE-approved shop for V2500-A5 and V2500 SelectOne engines.
Etihad Airways has completed engine selections for the massive aircraft orders it revealed at last year’s Farnborough airshow, in deals now totaling $14 billion in estimated value. As indicated at the time, it has opted for General Electric GEnx-1Bs for the 35 Boeing 787-9s it ordered, having already confirmed that it would use GE90-115Bs to power the 10 Boeing 777-300ERs.

The first Air France Airbus A380 powered with Engine Alliance GP7200 engines successfully completed a four-hour inaugural test flight from Airbus’s Toulouse, France manufacturing site last Thursday, the company announced today. On Monday, the aircraft flew to Airbus’s Hamburg, Germany facilities for paint and interior completions work. Airbus has scheduled the A380 for delivery to Air France in October.
