General Electric (GE) is developing the HF120 engine jointly with Honda for the small HondaJet and midsize Spectrum S40 Freedom business jets. According to GE, the engine is on track for certification but neither it nor Honda would confirm the date for this. GE could not give a firm target period either this year or next year.

Atlanta-based Atlantic Southeast Airlines last night voluntarily grounded 60 of its Bombardier CRJ200s after an internal audit showed that maintenance crews might not have inspected their GE CF34 turbofans according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. ASA operates 110 of the fifty-seat regional jets, as well as 38 seventy-seat CRJ700s and a pair of 76-seat CRJ900s.

GE Aviation has signed an exclusive distributor agreement with Aviall Services that covers unique spare parts of the GE CF34-3 for the remaining life of the engine.

GE Aviation is transferring responsibility for GE CF34-3 engine parts to Boeing subsidiary Aviall Services. Under the exclusive distributor agreement signed by GE Aviation and Aviall Services, Aviall will be responsible for forecasting, ordering and delivering all genuine OEM replacement parts that are unique to CF34-3 engines.

Irish-American aircraft lessor GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS) is to acquire as many as 25 General Electric CF34-powered ARJ21-700ER regional jets from China Aviation Industry I (AVIC I) Commercial Aircraft Company (ACAC) for delivery from 2013 in a deal signed last month at the China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition in Zhuhai.

(ACAC) is to supply Irish-American aircraft lessor GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS) with up to 25 General Electric CF34-powered ARJ21-700ER regional jets starting in 2013 under a contract signed today at the China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition in Zhuhai.

The FAA has issued a proposed Airworthiness Directive for GE CF34 turbofan engines with high-pressure-rotor, four-step, air-balance-piston, stationary seals to remove these seals and incorporate an eight-step seal at the next piece-part exposure.

Turbine engine overhauler Standard Aero on Thursday celebrated the ground-breaking of a new 80,000-sq-ft facility at its Winnipeg, Canada headquarters. The new plant adjoins Standard Aero’s existing 55,000-sq-ft GE CF34 repair and overhaul facility and is needed to accommodate growth in the CF34 program. The new section will open by next July and Standard Aero expects to add more employees to perform the additional CF34 work.
