Dubai-based JetEx Flight Support has made its first move into FBO management by completing the acquisition of the Flying Group facility at Paris Le Bourget Airport. The Belgian company has sold the FBO for an undisclosed sum so it can focus on its aircraft charter and management activities. According to JetEx CEO Adel Mardini, the Paris acquisition is part of a long-term strategy to establish an international network of FBOs.
The National Air Transportation Association’s new seminar series, “How to Build a More Successful FBO,” got off to a strong start with the first of the two-day meetings held on October 24 and 25 on the Carnival Cruise Lines Sensation during a voyage from Port Canaveral in Florida to Nassau, Bahamas.
Since the beginning of the year, Avfuel has added 41 FBOs to its fuel dealer network. The latest to join are Million Air San Antonio and Million Air Rome, the newest FBO in the Million Air franchise system based at Griffiss Airfield in Rome, N.Y. The 41 new Avfuel FBOs all participate in Avfuel’s Avtrips rewards program. Avfuel now has 600 dealers.
JetSet Media of Kansas City, Mo., has signed up Jet Aviation’s U.S. FBO network for installation of JetSet’s free digital signage system. FBOs can install the free system, which includes a large plasma or liquid crystal display in their lobbies, in exchange for allowing JetSet to run advertisements on the units, which the FBO can approve in advance.
The empty Garrett Jet Center at Van Nuys Airport should finally see a new tenant. Local developer Castle & Cooke Aviation, which already operates a hangar and office facility at Van Nuys, has entered negotiations with Los Angeles World Airports to lease the Jet Center property and develop an FBO. Castle & Cooke does not have retail fueling rights at its existing facilities although it does provide fuel to tenants.
The freshly refurbished FBO terminal at Atlantic’s Chicago Midway FBO is now open, featuring an extensively redesigned passenger waiting area with improved comfort and traffic flow features. The FBO’s café/vending area has doubled in size to provide visitors additional dining space, and Atlantic upgraded the pilot lounge with new work stations, Internet connections and a large flat-screen television.
The Bracamonte family sold the historic Jimsair Aviation Services FBO at San Diego International Airport to Landmark Aviation on July 18, bringing the Landmark chain to 42 FBOs. General manager John Bracamonte is staying on during the transition period until Landmark hires a new manager. Bracamonte’s grandfather opened the FBO in 1950, and John has been involved with the family business during the past 20 years.
Landmark Aviation has added Jimsair Aviation Services, located at San Diego International Airport, to its network of FBOs. The acquisition brings the number of Landmark FBOs to 42, with locations in the U.S., Canada and Western Europe. In March, Encore FBO, GTCR Golder Rauner and Platform Partners acquired Landmark Aviation’s Airport Services division from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise.
The Ross Aviation FBO chain acquired Laredo Air Center in Laredo, Texas.
