French engine maker Snecma is here at Asian Aerospace 2006 courting prospective partners and applications for its proposed new SM-X engine. The 8,500- to 10,500-pound thrust turbofan is being offered both for new large business jets and regional jetliners in the 40- to 60-seat class.
Snecma’s announcement in January that it is to develop the new SM-X turbofan for small regional airliners and mid-sized/large business jets took many by surprise, given the existence of several well-established players in the field and the enormous cost involved in designing and manufacturing an all-new powerplant.
Supersonic business jet hopeful Aerion is still building a consortium to develop its airplane. In March the board of the Reno, Nevada-based company approved continued funding of the project through to program launch.
Eaton (Hall 4 Stand F12) has been selected by Embraer to provide five packages for Embraer’s Phenom 100 very light jet. These include the hydraulic power generation package, design of the aircraft’s flap system and landing gear control hydraulic components. It will also supply miscellaneous cockpit controls including the throttle, landing gear and flap selectors.
CFM International is including a contrarotating ducted fan engine in studies of concepts that might provide the quantum leap in fuel efficiency, noise reduction and emissions being demanded for the next generation of single-aisle aircraft.
