As the A400M program gathers force, Airbus Military has chosen Thales as its preferred partner for training systems. A formal agreement covers the delivery of full-flight simulators to AMSL, plus an MoU for the provision of training solutions to France and the UK. AMSL and Thales will pool their considerable resources to provide training systems and services for A400M customers.
Canadian simulator builder CAE has introduced the third generation of its Simfinity cockpit procedures trainer, this one adding a so-called lesson plan studio for instructors and a virtual instructor feature that lets students create self-paced lessons.The Simfinity trainer consists of a number of LCD touch-screen displays positioned to replicate the cockpit of a given aircraft model.
Avions de Transport Régional has completely renovated its dedicated pilot training center at its Toulouse, France headquarters and is establishing new training sites in India and New Zealand. These are intended to complement its existing joint venture facilities with FlightSafety International in Miami, Florida, and Thales in Bangkok, Thailand.
Simulators and other training aids from Thales are set to help carriers in India and the Asia Pacific region meet the demand for pilots to fly the large numbers of new aircraft they have ordered as well as supporting the introduction of the newest airliner models.
Monday is the final day to comment on a proposed rule published by the FAA that, if enacted, would extend the duration of first- and third-class medical certificates for airmen under the age of 40. Currently, the maximum validity of a first-class medical certificate is six months, regardless of age. For a third-class medical certificate, the validity period is 36 months for pilots under 40.
Embraer has selected the CAE Burgess Hill, UK training center as the European training location for the Phenom 100 VLJ and Phenom 300 light jet. CAE will provide instruction in its Simfinity training devices, which use the same simulation software as the CAE full flight simulators. Training will begin in 2009 to coincide with the first projected Phenom 100 delivery in Europe.
Flight training provider CAE SimuFlite won’t hold the grand opening ceremony commemorating the start of operations at its Northeast Training Center in Morristown, N.J., until this month, but pilots have already been strapping into the brand-new Falcon 7X simulator for initial training.
Eclipse Aviation (Booth No. 202) has finalized details of the training program for its new very light jet (VLJ), revealing partnerships with two pilot training companies. Flight Simulation Co. (FSC) of The Netherlands and Higher Power Aviation, Inc. (HPA) of Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, will work with Florida-based simulator manufacturer Opinicus Corp., in providing an FAA-approved training curriculum for the Eclipse 500.
Eclipse Aviation selected two companies-Higher Power Aviation of Dallas and Flight Simulation of the Netherlands-to run the model 500 VLJ pilot training program. Flight Simulation will oversee the Eclipse 500 training program, and Higher Power instructors will train U.S. pilots at Eclipse's Albuquerque, N.M. headquarters and eventually at Eclipse's new training facility at nearby Double Eagle II Airport.
