Consulting firm Flight Department Solutions (FDS) has launched a new venture to help aircraft owners start their own flight departments. Called Flight Department Advantage, the new program can set up a flight department and assist with all aspects of running it.

“Historically for somebody getting a new airplane, the path of least resistance is to have it managed,” said Dave Weil, founder and CEO of San Francisco-based FDS. “We want to make it easier for them to have their own flight department.”

The Swiss Accreditation Service has officially acknowledged Lantal Laboratory as a “test center for railway and aircraft typical flammability tests pursuant to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard.”

According to the Langenthal, Switzerland-based transportation and fashion specialist, the laboratory is authorized to perform burn tests with all materials and components used in aircraft interiors.

On October 13 and 14, Avfuel is holding a quality-assurance and fire-safety seminar at the Avflight FBO at Capital City Airport in Lansing, Mich. The seminar is free for Avfuel customers (FBOs) and covers a variety of subjects, including oil refining, fuel properties, quality testing, safety, fuel storage facility maintenance, fire training, equipment maintenance and hands-on exercises at the Avflight FBO.
