Long Island MacArthur Airport-based Hawthorne Global Aviation Services has expanded its hours by adding a second shift, seven days a week. “With the increased demand for our maintenance services from our in-house, retail and transient customers, we extended our hours to provide our customers with the added convenience of maintenance services whenever they need them and to minimize downtime,” Ralph Michielli, vice president and director of maintenance, told AIN. New hours are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.
Duncan Aviation (Booth No. 5580) has always provided customers with rapid-response access to technical road crews, but the company has recently expanded the capabilities and the number of technicians so that it can now provide its customers with maintenance at their preferred location.
“This saves the customer fuel and travel time and makes maintenance-only events less disruptive to their overall schedule,” said Chad Doehring, airframe services manager for Duncan Aviation’s Lincoln, Neb. location.

Keitas Systems (Stand 1026), a start-up company based in Gex, France, not far from Geneva, is here introducing its Tempeus software program, designed to give exhaustive maintenance information to pilots via a simple Internet-connected laptop computer. Keitas Systems’ founders, sisters Lahou and Fatou Keita, began working on the program six months ago so it would be ready for EBACE.
The Nor’Easter that tore through the Northeast over the weekend caused flooding damage and power outages throughout the region and spurred New Jersey to declare a state of emergency. At Teterboro (N.J.) Airport, wind gusts of nearly 60 miles per hour were reported, knocking out power to the control tower and remote antenna transmitters around 6 p.m. Saturday, resulting in an immediate switch to back-up batteries.

The National Transportation Safety Board has dispatched investigators to examine a Southwest Airlines jet after it made an emergency landing in West Virginia yesterday after a hole opened in the body of the airplane and the cabin lost pressure.
Those who don’t learn from the mistakes of the past are destined to repeat them. That’s why the FAA today announced the establishment of a new online safety library that teaches lessons learned from “some of the world’s most historically significant transport airplane accidents.” Many of the lessons learned from these tragedies are timeless, the FAA said, and are applicable to all pilots regardless of what airplane(s) they fly.
As part of ongoing initiatives to boost global customer support, Pratt & Whitney Canada (Booth No. 463) has appointed Gate V Aircraft Maintenance of Vienna, Austria, as a recognized maintenance facility to provide line maintenance support for PW500 and JT15D series engines. Gate V, a Part-145 approved maintenance organization, operates a 27,000-sq-ft hangar at Vienna International Airport.
A proposed AD calls for inspections of the front and aft surfaces of the pressure dome on Pilatus PC-12s for cracking and other damage that would have to be repaired. The proposal is based on 19 reports of nicks and scratches on pressure domes on the turboprop single caused by drill or rivet tools. The FAA said the damage could lead to rapid decompression. The AD would apply to 280 U.S.-registered PC-12s.
