EU-funded project Accepta is co-funding the publishing of Egnos (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay System) landing procedures and/or installing its navigation equipment at 40 additional airports in 11 European countries by the end of 2013. The countries soon to get the system at their airports include Finland, France, Italy, UK, Austria and Spain. Egnos, Europe’s equivalent of Waas GPS, has many benefits including operational, economic (especially for business aviation), safety and environmental, said the company.
Jeppesen is offering consolidated and customized flight-planning assistance through its FlightSupport Services, along with new route-planning functionality for its Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck app for iPad. With the enhancement to Jeppesen FliteSupport Services, company experts act as an extension of the customer’s flight department, providing customized delivery of international flight-planning and operations assistance.
Jeppesen’s Mobile FliteDeck went live on Apple’s AppStore on July 25 and had been downloaded more than 3,000 times before Jeppesen formally announced the iPad app’s release three days later. Mobile FliteDeck builds on Jeppesen’s Mobile TC, which displayed worldwide terminal charts on the iPad, with new functionality, including en route charts and geo-referenced (own-ship) position display on GPS-equipped iPads.
UK-based Beagle Technology Group (Hall 2B Stand G149) has restructured and changed its name from Beagle Aerospace. The new organization now comprises six new Beagle companies: maintenance, repair and overhaul; aerospace; defense, composites; treatments and precision.

Several elements of the Next Generation Air Transportation System depend on GPS-based area navigation (RNAV) and required navigation performance (RNP). RNP is essentially RNAV with onboard performance and alerting capability. The ability of the aircraft's own navigation system to monitor its navigation performance and to inform the crew if the required performance is not being met is a defining capability of RNP operations.
Yesterday the FAA published a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) that would mandate that all helicopters transiting the Long Island area of New York VFR use the North Shore Route. A voluntary overwater route was created in 2008 to address area resident noise complaints. The new rule would require civil helicopters flying along Long Island’s northern shoreline to follow this overwater route between waypoint VPLYD and Orient Point.
Eurocopter recently announced the success of the flights it conducted in November with an EC145 light twin to test Galileo satellite navigation. Galileo, Europe’s GPS counterpart, is expected to offer higher reliability than current augmented GPS. But
the helicopter manufacturer does not expect the tested applications to be operational until 2015.
