On Tuesday at the Paris Air Show Boeing Defense, Space and Security announced an agreement with Embraer Defesa & Segurança to lead sales efforts of the Embraer KC-390 medium airlifter in the U.S. and UK and in select states in the Middle East. Boeing will also be the prime for sustainment and training in those territories, with Embraer providing the aircraft and assistance. The deal is part of the over-arching teaming agreement announced last year. Boeing and Embraer foresee an addressable market of 700 aircraft in the medium mobility market.
International Aero Engines (IAE) will begin building the first engine for the Brazilian KC-390 multirole tanker/transport aircraft the week following the Paris Air Show.
The event kicks off the action for an engine program that is celebrating its 30th birthday this year. For the Airbus A320 series application, the IAE V2500 is heading for its highest annual production run ever, with delivery of more than 500 engines planned this year and next.
Embraer (Chalet B387) is showing a Super Tucano in the static park here for the first time. “This aircraft has a great future; air forces from all over the world have been asking us about it since we won the U.S. Air Force competition,” Embraer Defense and Security CEO Luiz Carlos Aguiar told AIN. Also here at Paris, Aguiar is promising a new announcement about the KC-390, the Brazilian design that could be a serious competitor in the future market for airlifters.
Embraer has taken an order for a Lineage 1000 bizliner for a customer in China, the aircraft manufacturer announced today at ABACE. “We can’t reveal the customer’s name,” said Embraer Executive Jets president Ernest Edwards, “but I can tell you that we’re absolutely delighted to have this company honor us with the order.” The aircraft will be delivered in the first half of this year. Embraer also announced appointment of Hawker Pacific Singapore as an Embraer authorized service center.
The new tactical transport jet that has been under development in Brazil for the past two years was formally launched this month. Embraer signed a contract with the Brazilian Air Force on April 14 for the KC-390 at the Latin America Aero and Defence Show. As the revised designation now suggests, the aircraft can also act as a refueler, either in the air or on the ground.
Embraer, the world’s fourth-ranking aircraft maker, which started largely as a defense company, is seeking to enhance its defense business by studying the possible development of the C-390, a medium-size military cargo transport, which would be the heaviest aircraft ever produced by the Brazilian manufacturer and take it into a new segment of the aerospace and defense market.
In front of more than 1,000 guests, including Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and many of the country’s top government officials and executives, Embraer rolled out the first Embraer 190 on February 9 at its São José dos Campos plant. The airliner, which seats up to 108 passengers, is the largest aircraft ever produced by the Brazilian manufacturer.
