Residual value guarantees, superior hot-and-high capabilities and “outstanding” launch customer incentives all contributed to a decision by Mexico’s second-largest airline to take a “calculated risk” on the Sukhoi Superjet 100, Interjet CEO Jose Luis Garza told AIN during a visit to New York last week.

Today Embraer delivered the first Lineage 1000 to go to a mainland China customer, Xinjiang Guanghui Industry Investment Group. Since the first delivery of a Legacy 600 in Greater China in 2004, Embraer has booked firm orders for 28 executive jets in this market, 15 of which were written last year. The company forecasts Chinese demand for 635 executive jets from all manufacturers in the coming 10 years.

A Chinese-registered Embraer E190 regional jet returned to Hotan Airport (ZWTN), China on June 29 after six people attempted to hijack the aircraft.

The hijackers, reportedly carrying explosives, were subdued by passengers and crew in fight after they attempted to break down the cockpit door to gain entry.

Embraer delivered 55 jets in the second quarter, composed of 35 airliners and 20 executive jets. Of the business jets, Embraer shipped 17 light jets and three large jets. Total deliveries for the first six months reached 89 aircraft–56 commercial and 33 executive jets–13 more than for the same period last year.

Hamilton Sundstrand has signed an agreement with Fokker Services to provide spare parts in support of Fokker repair work at its Amsterdam facility. The purchase contract, which runs through 2016, is valued at $33.2 million. It covers “integrated drive generators and other equipment” for aircraft built mainly by Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier and Fokker.

The U.S. company has also announced three maintenance and support deals with airlines here at the show:

Bombardier is adamant that the first CSeries100 single-aisle airliner will fly before the end of this year, despite the perception among outside observers that a lot of work remains to be done in less than six months. Here at the 2012 Farnborough International Airshow, the Canadian airframer will be hoping to boost the order backlog for the program

Unfazed by a fast-depleting order backlog, Brazilian manufacturer Embraer is betting on a sales surge in North America for its E-Jet airliners. This expectation is partly due to expectations of long-awaited reforms to U.S.“scope-clause” trade union restrictions based on aircraft size that currently prevent regional airlines from operating with crews from their associated mainline carriers.

Embraer plans to introduce gradual improvements to its E-Jets over the next three years, including a fuel-burn-improvement package by year-end, before the planned 2018 service entry of re-engined versions of the E175, E190 and E195, known now as the G2 series. Plans call for new winglets and some aerodynamic “clean-up” to achieve a near-term fuel-burn improvement of 5 percent in the E175 and 3 percent in the E190, said Embraer commercial aviation president Paulo Cesar Silva.

Legacy 650

Chinese prime minister Wen Jiabao announced at the Rio+20 conference in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday that his country’s Aviation Industry Corporation of China (Avic) has signed an agreement to build Embraer Legacy 650 executive jets in Harbin, China. The project will use the infrastructure, financial resources and workforce of their joint venture, Harbin Embraer Aircraft Industry, which began operations in 2002 building Embraer ERJ145 regional jets.
