Dassault has selected the Thales TopStart electric starter-generator system for the Falcon 5X. The equipment manufacturer claims the unit reduces weight and improves engine durability. The system marks the first time the Paris-based company has combined electric starting and power generation functions in a single unit for a business jet.

The FAA has granted FAA-PMA approval to the new Hartzell Engine Technologies ALV-9610 100-amp alternator for Continental -470, -520 and -550 piston engines, which replaces the original Crittendon and ALV-9510 units. The new alternator weighs 12.75 pounds, saving up to 9.25 pounds per alternator, and features a compact design with integral noise filtering. Cost of the ALV-9610 is $1,100, with a $425 core charge and two-year warranty.

Boeing has added Hamilton Sundstrand to its team of suppliers on the KC-46 aerial tanker, awarding it a contract to supply its environmental-control system, electric-power generation system, emergency ram-air turbine system, fans and engine bleed-air system, engine controls and accessories, bleed-air leak detection system and the engine/APU fire detection and overheat detection system.

The FAA is proposing for the Cessna Citation X an Airworthiness Directive (AD) that would require an inspection to determine the serial numbers of the APU generator and the left and right engine direct-current generators. It would also require related corrective actions, if necessary, and a revision to the airplane flight manual.

Kidde Aerospace and Defense, a Hamilton Sundstrand business unit, won a contract from Commercial Aviation Corporation of China (Comac) to provide the fire and overheat protection for the new C919 airliner.

Hamilton Sundstrand has won a contact from China's Comac to provide the electric power generation and distribution systems for the 150- to 190-seat C919 narrowbody, the Windsor Locks, Conn.-based supplier announced today. Hamilton Sundstrand places the value of the work at more than $1 billion over the life of the program.

Bombardier Aerospace has selected Innovative Power Solutions to provide its brushless starter/generator (BS/G) system for the new Learjet 85. With growth potential to 625 amps, the 500-amp/18-kilowatt DC systems will be used on the 6,100-pound- thrust Pratt & Whitney Canada PW307 engines and auxiliary-power unit.
