Enhanced performance, greater reliability and reduced operator maintenance costs are the primary selling points behind the “Mercury Mod” starter generator upgrade offered by Naasco Northeastern Corporation. In addition to celebrating the 18-year history of the upgrade, Naasco is sharing news about its upcoming “Mercury Mod-Phase Two” variant at Heli-Expo’13 (Booth No. C3924.)
LMB of Malemort, France, is showcasing a range of its high-performance/high-reliability electric fans, blowers and motors here at Heli-Expo (Booth No. C3504). LMB designs and manufactures both AC (50/60 Hz, 400 Hz and wild frequency) and DC (12-300 VDC) brushless motors used in fixed- and rotor-wing aircraft, as well as in ground military vehicles. The company offers more than 1,000 shelf-qualified products, while its engineering expertise capabilities enable it to quickly design and build these components to meet specific requirements that meet Mil STD 810/461 and RTCA DO-160 standards.
The FAA proposes an airworthiness directive for the Cessna 500, 501, 550, 551, S550, 560, 560XL and 650 prompted by multiple reports of smoke and/or fire in the tailcone caused by sparking due to excessive wear of the brushes in the air-conditioning (A/C) motor.
A proposed airworthiness directive for certain Cessna 525 air conditioning (A/C) compressor motors was prompted by reports of smoke and/or fire in the tailcone. The AD requires inspection of the number of hours on the A/C compressor hour meter, inspection of the logbook and replacement of the brushes or deactivation of the system until replacement of the brushes. When the brush wears down, the rivet in the brush contacts the commutator, causing sparks and excessive heat build-up within the motor assembly.
As part of its €1.6 billion ($2.2 billion) Clean Sky joint technology initiative, Europe is undertaking a number of projects toward the development of more-electric helicopters.
The FAA is proposing for the Cessna Citation X an Airworthiness Directive (AD) that would require an inspection to determine the serial numbers of the APU generator and the left and right engine direct-current generators. It would also require related corrective actions, if necessary, and a revision to the airplane flight manual.
Naasco Northeast has announced its Mercury Mod configured starter generators have accumulated more than one million combined flight hours on Eurocopters, including the AS 350, AS 355, AS 365, EC 120, EC 130, EC 135 and EC 145.
Bental Industries has introduced a new member of its family of rotary servo actuators. The RSA-06 unit delivers up to 9.6 pounds per foot of torque at a stroke of +/- 45 degrees. The Israeli group’s RSA actuators are used for functions such as flap controls on small unmanned aerial vehicles. They provide an extremely low power-to-weight/size ratio.
