The pilots of the Northwest Airlines Flight 188 that overflew Minneapolis on October 21 told NTSB investigators that a distraction in the cockpit of their Airbus A320 led to the incident, not a “heated discussion,” as reported by the Safety Board last Thursday.

The NTSB has launched an investigation into an incident yesterday in which a Northwest Airlines Airbus A320 overflew its destination–Minneapolis-St. Paul International/Wold-Chamberlain Airport (MSP)–apparently as the crew engaged in a “heated discussion” over airline policy.

Boeing’s Alteon Training subsidiary has signed an agreement with Northwest Airlines (NWA) to provide flight training on seven aircraft types at the carrier’s Eagan, Minnesota headquarters. The agreement includes the introduction of a 787 full-flight simulator at the NWA training center by April 2008 and exclusive rights allowing Alteon to market excess simulator training time to all 787 customers.

The pilots of Northwest Airlines have threatened to strike if management proceeds with plans to launch a new regional airline as proposed in a newsletter distributed to the company’s 34,000 employees last month. Tentatively named NewCo, the new unit would replace Northwest’s DC-9s with one hundred five 77- to 100-seat jets flying as a Northwest Airlink affiliate.
