London Biggin Hill Airport (Stand 759) will open its new 4,800-sq-ft hangar next month. Situated next to the main terminal building, it will also offer 54,000 sq ft of additional ramp space for aircraft parking, with plenty of space to accommodate widebody jets. Several fully serviced offices are available for rent in the hangar and also will be available on a short-term basis for operators.

London Biggin Hill Airport has a new managing director and she comes from Dubai. From March 1, Jenny Munro will takeover from Peter Lonergan, who is retiring after 16 years in the job.
London Biggin Hill Airport (Booth No. 953) has started a new development program. The airport will add a new 54,000-sq-ft parking/ramp area for business aircraft adjacent to the passenger terminal by mid-June; a new double-span hangar for business aircraft by early 2011; and a new hotel in time for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The Air Partner initiative at Biggin Hill comes as the airport reports business jet movements increased by 25 percent last year and it foresees 30-percent further growth this year. Additional infrastructure development at the southeast London site may draw on the proceeds of parent company Regional Airports’ planned disposal of its interest in Southend Airport on the north bank of the Thames river estuary east of London.
A 35-acre site for a new FBO at London’s Southend Airport is to be offered to private developers. Regional Airports Ltd, which also owns the UK capital’s Biggin Hill Airport and operates an FBO at the Royal Air Force’s Northolt base, is positioning Southend to serve business aircraft operators wanting to get close to the government-backed Thames Gateway plan to expand London eastwards.
Work is set to begin on development of a major business aviation enclave at London Biggin Hill Airport (Booth No. 7329), with executive charter broker Air Partner International recently signing an 80-year lease to establish its own operating base on a 115,000-sq-ft plot.
British environmental protesters targeted business aviation today when they blockaded the main entrances to the London-area airports at Biggin Hill and Farnborough. The demonstrations were an offshoot of a week-long protest staged at London Heathrow Airport. At Biggin Hill, passengers and crew had to be temporarily diverted through alternative entrances while police forcibly removed protesters who had chained themselves to the gates.
Almost 70 years after contributing to the aerial security net around London during the Battle of Britain, Biggin Hill Airport is again to secure the safety of aircraft. Air Partner has signed an 80-year lease with the airport for a 115,000-sq-ft site on which to develop an almost $10 million high-security private-jet enclave.
London Biggin Hill Airport (Booth No. 1333) opened its new apron last month, significantly increasing available aircraft parking space to almost 270,000 sq ft. According to Robert Walters, the privately owned airport’s business development manager, the expansion will allow aircraft to be parked more safely and also increases capacity by some 60 percent.
The European Business Aviation Association (EBAA) is launching a series of regional forums. The first of the new events will be held at London Biggin Hill Airport on September 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
