Seven winners emerged from the Crystal Cabin Awards judging last month, and some of them stand to find a market in business aviation.

The winners were announced at a gala dinner in Hamburg, Germany, on the eve of the opening of the annual Aircraft Interiors Expo.

Candidates with winning entries included Boeing, Diehl Aircabin, Dornier Technologie Systems, Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, Meru, Thales and Zodiac Aerospace.

Diehl Aircabin (Hall 2, Stand 192), one of the concerns shed by Airbus as part of its Power 8 restructuring program, is investing more than $135 million in production facilities for Airbus A350 cabin components as new 51:49 joint owners Diehl and Thales look to combine their cabin system expertise and develop increasingly integrated airliner interiors.

Diehl Aerospace, the product of a merger between two German companies, is celebrating its second anniversary this month and joining French group Thales
in a deal to acquire Airbus’ factory in Laupheim, Germany. The two companies were declared preferred bidders for the site on May 30.

EADS’s failure to divest itself of major Airbus production sites in both France and Germany as part of its Power8 restructuring plan hasn’t threatened a delay in the development schedule for the A350XWB, according to the European group’s CEO Louis Gallois. However, in the build-up to this week’s Farnborough airshow, questions remained over how long the company could wait before the program begins to lose its development rhythm.
