One solution to both the safety and cost of food in business aviation is to cook from scratch. Flight departments such as Aramco and the military (Air Force One) have been cooking gourmet meals on board aircraft for years with the goal of providing safe food for their passengers.

The challenge is finding cabin crew who can cook well. Terry Fuhrmann, supervisor of flight services for Aramco, explained that the company hires chefs, even without aviation experience, because “we can train them to become safety managers and first responders in the cabin.”

Pratt & Whitney Canada has signed a multi-year fleet management program contract with Aramco Associated, an affiliate of the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco). Under the terms of the contract, P&WC will provide engine support for the Saudi Aramco-operated AgustaWestland AW139 fleet based in Saudi Arabia. The program’s guaranteed maintenance cost plan contract covers PT6 engines over the term of the agreement.

The crash of a Spanish Air Force two-seat Eurofighter at Moron airbase on August 24 that killed a pilot from the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) has raised questions about the progress of the al-Salam agreement between the UK and Saudi governments. This $6.6 billion deal provided for the training of RSAF pilots and ground crew by the UK Royal Air Force, as well as the supply of 72 Eurofighters and various support services by BAE Systems.

Delivery of the seven AgustaWestland A109 Power helicopters ordered by Saudi Aramco are almost complete, with the last aircraft due for acceptance by the end of the year.
