Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) and Dassault Falcon renewed their collaboration on education, research and business projects for another three years. Under the previous three-year agreement, Dassault and ERAU’s College of Engineering established the Dassault Design Institute at the university’s Daytona Beach, Fla. campus, where engineering undergraduate students determined the environmental impact and performance efficiency of different business jets.

Yesterday’s tax auction by the Brazilian government of a Bombardier Challenger 300 and Dassault Falcon 900 at Viracopos Airport in Campinas, Brazil, failed to garner the minimum bids of $12.85 million and $5.05 million, respectively. Another auction will be scheduled, possibly by year-end, with lower minimums that have not yet been determined.
Dassault is preparing to deliver the first Falcon 2000S to be based in India next month, following certification by India’s aviation authority on November 1. The new twinjet will be based in Bangalore. To date, Dassault has handed over 10 Falcon 2000Ss since deliveries started in April.
Hot on the heels of the recently unveiled Falcon 5X, Dassault will make another addition to the Falcon line of business jets and an announcement can be expected next year, Dassault Falcon Jet president and CEO John Rosanvallon told AIN yesterday at the Dubai Airshow. The addition will come at the top of the product line, he said, without revealing further details. Rosanvallon did say it will not replace an existing product.
Dassault Aviation (Stand 1445), which is here exhibiting its Falcon 7X and Falcon 900LX business jets, expects the Middle East to be a major market for its new Falcon 5X, which was revealed at last month’s NBAA show in Las Vegas. The Saint-Cloud, France-based manufacturer has just begun offering a cockpit upgrade retrofit for the Falcon 900C/EX and an improvement for the Falcon 7X’s electronic flight bag (EFB).
“We have worked a lot to define the volume and to look at how the 7X is used for long flights, to find the most comfortable and efficient way to use [the new 5X],” said Olivier Villa, Dassault senior v-p for civil aircraft.
The cabin volume of the 5X is 1,770 cu ft compared to 1,550 cu ft on the 7X. The unfinished cabin interior height is 78 inches, which is four inches more than the 7X/900LX, and the maximum width is increased by 10 inches.
Dassault Aviation launched its long-awaited, all-new Falcon 5X at last month’s NBAA show in Las Vegas. The long-range, advanced technology model should provoke strong interest among the growing Middle Eastern jet set.
Dassault took the wraps off the airplane known thus far as “SMS” at the NBAA Convention late last month. The Falcon 5X is a Mach 0.8 fly-by-wire twinjet powered by Snecma Silvercrest turbofans, and it is decidedly not the super-midsize that its project initials suggested.
In fact, SMS could have stood for smokescreen. The 5X, slated to fly before mid-2015 and enter service in the first half of 2017, is bigger inside than the company’s current flagship, the Falcon 7X.
Dassault Falcon introduced its Falcon 5X just one day ago, and already it is announcing partners in the aircraft’s production. At NBAA 2013 the company announced that it has selected Pratt & Whitney’s APS500[D] auxiliary power unit to provide the aircraft with electrical power for main engine starting and cabin air-conditioning on the ground. Pratt & Whitney Aeropower is partnering with Safran Microturbo to customize the APU for the 5X.
