All three people were killed August 4 aboard a German-registered cargo-configured Falcon 20 when it hit a 700-ft mountain about 4.5 mi from Greenland’s Narsarsuaq Airport while on approach. Information on the weather at the time of the accident wasn’t immediately available. The 1966 business jet was registered to Ortwin Naske of Naske Air Service in Braunschweig, Germany, according to AvData in Wichita.
Dassault Falcon 20
To improve support for a worldwide fleet of some 1,600 Falcons, last month Dassault Falcon Jet announced at the NBAA show that it has restructured its service network to create Dassault Aircraft Services and provide owners and operators with “the kind of support they expect of an airplane of this quality.”
Deliveries by Cessna and Dassault were down sharply in the first quarter compared with the same period last year. Cessna shipped 50 business jets in the first quarter versus 60 for the same period a year ago. Consequently, Cessna’s revenue decreased $89 million, profit fell by $20 million and the backlog shrank to $4.4 billion at the end of the quarter.
Thunder Avionics in St. Louis has teamed with Flight Test Associates to develop an RVSM package for Falcon 10s and 20s. For the Falcon 10, the original autopilot will be used in addition to IS&S replacement air-data controllers and altimeters. Estimated downtime for equipment installation and skin testing is eight to 10 weeks. Price will vary from $115,000 to $200,000.
Thunder Aviation of Chesterfield, Mo. has received a group STC for an RVSM retrofit for Falcon 20s equipped with the Collins AP-105 autopilot. Follow-on STC amendments covering similarly equipped Falcon 10s are forthcoming, as well as amendments for Falcon 10s and 20s equipped with the SPZ 500 autopilot.
A year after construction began, the new assembly facility for the long-range Dassault Falcon 7X is finished and has already started operations. Attendees at the inauguration on September 15 in Bordeaux, France, could see some 10 Falcon 2000 and 2000EX twinjets in the last stages of final assembly.
The front section of Dassault’s first Falcon 900DX completed assembly at the group’s Paris-area Argenteuil factory in the middle of last month and is due to be delivered to the Biarritz fuselage assembly line before the end of this month.
