Crane Lube & Scavenge Pump

Crane Aerospace & Electronics (Hall 4 A188), a supplier of systems and components for critical aerospace and defense applications, announced selections of several of its products for the Paris Air Show audience.

Pratt & Whitney has selected Crane to provide the lube and scavenge pumps for the Pratt & Whitney PurePower PW1100G-JM geared-turbofan engine for the Airbus A320neo and the PW1400G for the Irkut MC-2.

East/West Industries took the opportunity at Heli-Expo to feature two of its products that share little in common on the surface, except for innovative design and safety considerations.

“Our energy-attenuating seats are the lightest seats on the market, and accommodate the entire range of potential occupants without any adjustments,” said Joseph Spinosa, vice president for business development. “The occupant merely sits down, buckles in and gets full protection. We provide the same protection level for all occupants, not just the 50th percentile model.”

The UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch has begun its work to discover the causes of an accident in which an AgustaWestland AW109 Power helicopter crashed in central London on January 16, killing its pilot and the driver of a car. But British Prime Minister David Cameron has already ordered a wider review of the regulation of helicopter flights over the UK capital in the wake of the incident, in which the aircraft crashed just before 8 a.m.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has ordered a review of the regulation of helicopter flights over central London in the wake of an accident yesterday in which an AgustaWestland AW109 Power crashed into a newly erected crane on a high-rise building in the UK capital’s Vauxhall district. The accident claimed the life of pilot Pete Barnes, the sole occupant of the helicopter, which was being operated by UK-based charter firm RotorMotion.

Erickson Air-Crane has entered into a non-binding letter of intent to acquire 14 helicopters and associated personnel and assets from HRT Participacoes em Petroleo (HRT). The deal requires Erickson Air-Crane to provide operational services, including both cargo and passenger transport, to HRT in the Amazon under a three-year renewable contract. Erickson traditionally had focused its efforts on building, selling, servicing and operating heavy-lift S-64 Aircranes. Erickson CEO Udo Rieder said the agreement provides “an excellent path to diversification and growth.”

Erickson Air-Crane (Booth No. 459) and a consortium of Chinese aviation companies have signed a deal for up to five S-64F Air-Cranes. The companies signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) yesterday at Heli-Expo 2011.

Crane Aerospace & Electronics (Hall 4 Stand A21) is developing a new fuel control and monitoring system (FCMS) for under-wing tanks for the Pilatus PC-21 turboprop military trainer. The tanks are a requirement of the United Arab Emirates, which ordered 25 PC-21s. Crane’s Eldec subsidiary in France will be in charge, as it already provides the FCMS for the main tanks.

Erickson Air Crane was called in to drop snow on the Vancouver winter games after a week of rain and unusually warm weather melted the white stuff at some elevations below 4,000 feet. Erickson has been using one of its S-64 Air Cranes to move 13,000-pound loads of snow to cover bare ground at several area ski and snowboard venues, including Cypress Mountain and Mount Black.

Bell 212, Persian Gulf, United Arab Emirates, Sept. 3, 2008–All seven people aboard the Aerogulf Services Bell 212 were killed when the helicopter hit a crane while taking off from an oil rig in the Persian Gulf. The helicopter had flown cargo from Dubai. After unloading the cargo, it lifted off the helipad, hovered and moved backward into the crane.
