International Communications Group (ICG) and Rockwell Collins have demonstrated the compatibility of ICG’s NxtLink ICS-220A communication systems with Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics in the Gulfstream G250, the companies said. The tests demonstrated the use of controller pilot datalink communications (CPDLC) and automatic dependent surveillance-contract (ADS-C) functions in the G250’s Pro Line Fusion avionics.

Certification of the EASy II flight deck, an upgrade of Dassault’s EASy integrated avionics system for current-production Falcon business jets, has been postponed to later this year, AIN has learned. In explaining the delay, Dassault said it wants the system to be “more mature” at entry into service.
Universal Avionics (Booth No. 4254) unveiled the UL-800/801 communications management system, developed to be compatible with Future Air Navigation System (FANS) and VHF datalink (VDL) Mode 2 capabilities for digital communications between pilots and ATC.
Arinc has adjusted the pricing structure for its datalink services by introducing a flat fee for global communications via VHF Inmarsat and Iridium. According to the company, this will reduce or at least stabilize costs for operators at a time when they can ill-afford to incur unexpected fees.

International Communications Group of Newport News, Va., has received parts manufacturer authority (PMA) for the NxtLink ICS-120A and ICS-220A communication systems. The products offer flight deck voice and datalink services over the Iridium satellite network. ICG’s ICS-120A system incorporates a single Iridium transceiver and a short-burst-data (SBD) modem enabling connections to standard flight-deck voice and data systems.
Gulfstream said it has completed a full future air navigation system (Fans) flight across the Atlantic Ocean using controller-pilot datalink communication with automatic dependent surveillance (CPDLC/ADS).
The flight was the first of its kind for a purpose-built business jet. The CPDLC/ADS datalink provides flight crews with direct communication to oceanic and remote-area air traffic controllers.
Dassault Falcon today announced the long-anticipated upgrade to the Honeywell Primus Epic-based Enhanced Avionics System (EASy) flight deck–the EASy Phase II system with synthetic-vision system (SVS) technology. Both a hardware and software upgrade, EASy Phase II certification is expected by the end of next year for the Falcon 900 series and mid-2010 for the Falcon 2000 and 7X models.
A five-year plan–four-fifths of which FAA Administrator Marion Blakey could actually see through to fruition–was laid out in draft form in late July for the aviation industry at a meeting at FAA headquarters in Washington. Titled Flight Plan 2004-2008, it sets as its goals: increased safety, greater capacity, international leadership and organizational excellence.
Eurocontrol has introduced a new screen-to-screen datalink between pilots and air traffic controllers at its Maastricht upper-area control (UAC) center in the Netherlands. The controller-pilot datalink communication (CPDLC) system supplements existing voice contact by allowing text messages between screens in the cockpit and on the ground to reduce workload at both ends.
