Flexjet added two new benefits for its fractional jet owners: a 90-day satisfaction guarantee and an unlimited carry-forward hours program. The satisfaction guarantee allows owners to exit their contract for any reason within the initial three-month period, regardless of contract.

International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 1108, the union for Flight Options’ 500 pilots, early last month reached a tentative agreement for a first contract with the Cleveland-based fractional provider. The agreement comes some four years after the union came on the property and, if ratified, will end years of sometimes acrimonious negotiations.

French-based executive air charter operator THS has filed a lawsuit against NetJets Europe for “dissimulated labor.” THS alleges that NetJets has hired pilots under foreign contracts, thus evading French taxes and social contributions. Therefore, the company claims it is at a disadvantage and pilots do not have the social security they should have. THS asserts that some 100 pilots are affected.

Pilots often wonder what happens if they sign a contract to repay training costs when accepting a flying job that involves expensive simulator training but quit before the contract has expired. Conventional wisdom is that such contracts are not enforceable and the hiring company eventually drops the issue. That was not the case for Allen Miller, who accepted a job with Bombardier Aerospace’s Flexjet fractional operation in July 2000.

The pilots of Dallas-based CareFlite have approved a new contract including a pay hike, ending more than a year of work (and grueling negotiations) without a contract. The new three-year contract includes expanded pay and benefits for the pilots, including guaranteed overtime, annual pay increases of up to 6.2 percent and an average starting salary between $47,561 and $66,000.

The payment dispute between Eclipse Aviation and Eclipse 500 empennage assembly supplier Hampson Aerospace seems to be resolved for now, according to a recent court filing. On November 13, Hampson filed a lawsuit against Eclipse Aviation in the New Mexico Second District Court for failing to pay “in accordance with the schedule and under the terms set out” in a contract.
