Congonhas-São Paulo Airport

CAE has begun construction of a second training center in São Paulo, Brazil. It is near the city’s São Paulo Congonhas downtown airport and slated to enter service later this summer or early fall.

The current CAE training center at Guarulhos International Airport recently expanded its roster of simulator bays to 10 from six and offers training for the A320, A330, A340, 737NG and 777. CAE also recently introduced Sikorsky S-76 training.

The historic VASP airline hangars that have provided a base for the Labace show in São Paulo, Brazil, could soon be demolished to provide additional space for operations at Congonhas Airport. VASP went bankrupt in 2005 and its hangars have since deteriorated at Congonhas during legal wrangling.

In the three years since the Latin American Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (Labace) was relaunched, it has benefited from an increasingly healthy economic environment in Latin America and in particular in host country Brazil.
More than 14,000 visitors this year attended the three-day show–the seventh–500 more than last year. Labace also hosted a record-setting number of static display aircraft (56) and exhibitors (150).

The Latin American Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (Labace) has not only matured this year but has become a financial cornerstone for the organizing Associação Brasileira de Aviação Geral (Abag, General Aviation Association of Brazil), according to one of the show's founders, OceanAir Táxi Aéreo marketing and sales director Jose Eduardo Brandão.

Cessna said Brazil is its leading market for jets outside the U.S., with an in-country fleet of more than 200 Citations. The Mustang accounts for approximately 10 percent of the Citation fleet in Brazil, with 22 of the entry-level jets in the hands of Brazilian customers. The Citation Sovereign and XLS+ are also popular in Brazil, Cessna said.

Hawker Beechcraft King Air B350, Porto Segura, Brazil, May 23, 2009–Operated by Metered Holdings, the turboprop twin crashed approximately 200 yards short of Runway 15 at private Terravista airport (SBTV) at the end of a flight from Congonhas-São Paulo International Airport. The pilot and all 13 passengers were killed and the aircraft sustained substantial damage.
