The EASA’s flat fee for a type certificate for a fixed-wing aircraft with an mtow of between 5.7 and 22 metric tons (encompassing the Cessna Citation CJ3 to the Falcon 900 series) is e1.06 million ($1.48 million). For a rotorcraft, it ranges from e20,000 to e525,000 ($28,000 to $735,000). Additional annual fees are levied to pay for the administration processes that ensure continued airworthiness.

Cessna has added the Citation CJ3 to its ProTech maintenance program, which allows operators to pay for regular maintenance labor costs via a monthly fee. Maintenance must be done at one of Cessna’s 10 service centers in the U.S. or at a participating authorized service facility around the world.

The first production Citation CJ3 (S/N 001) entered flight test last month, three weeks ahead of schedule, according to Cessna. During the 1.5-hour flight, the aircraft was put through a full range of airspeed from stalls to Mmo and coupled approaches. S/N 001 will be used primarily for avionics development and certification. Cessna has dedicated three CJ3s to certification.

Precision Pattern of Wichita, a subsidiary of DeCrane Aircraft’s Cabin Management Group, has been selected by Cessna Aircraft to provide cabinetry for the Citation Sovereign and the recently announced Citation CJ3. PPI (Booth No. 1133) provided the cabinetry for both the Sovereign and CJ3 mockups at NBAA (Booth No. 5277), including galleys, closets, entertainment cabinets, storage cabinets, tables, arm ledges, bulkheads and vanity assemblies.

Cessna is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, and the company’s 1 millionth customer was on hand here yesterday to mark his purchase of a Citation CJ3. Along with his wife, Anna, Juan Jose Bermudez will fly the CJ3 in the course of running his business, the Puerto Rican-based engineering firm of Bermudez & Longo.

Cessna has chosen Smiths Aerospace to provide the hydraulic actuation and display systems for the new Citation CJ3 jet announced here at NBAA on Monday. Initial deliveries of the equipment will begin in 2004 with full production to start two years later. Smiths (Booth No. 4357) expects the deal to result in $20 million in sales through the life of the program.

According to Cessna chairman and CEO Russ Meyer, the company’s 75th year in business could be its best ever in terms of deliveries and billings. Meyer said that by year-end the Wichita airframer will deliver more than 300 Citations, 100 Caravans and 500 piston singles; billings are expected to top $3.2 billion.

Rockwell Colllins emerged a winner yesterday with the announcement that the Cedar Rapids, Iowa company’s Pro Line 21 avionics system has been selected as standard for both the Cessna Citation CJ3 and the Gulfstream 150.
