Citing ongoing criminal prosecution of Continental Airlines for the 2000 Concorde crash in Paris, the U.S.-based Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) is asking governments worldwide to form multinational, independent air accident investigation boards.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have signed a joint agreement to join the Asia and Pacific Initiative to Reduce Emissions (Aspire). To mark the occasion they have conducted “the world’s first multi-sector green flight” on an SIA’s flight SQ11 from Los Angeles to Singapore via Tokyo, with the Boeing 747-400 arriving in Singapore in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
“The most significant issue facing the maintenance community in 2010 is financial sus- tainability,” Aaron Hilkemann, president of Duncan Aviation, told AIN. “As demand decreased this past year, additional incentives were provided to operators. These incentives have reduced or eliminated already low profit margins for many maintenance providers.
A new Article 222 of UK Air Navigation Order 2009 makes it illegal “to shine any light at any aircraft in flight so as to dazzle or distract the pilot of the aircraft.” The country’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) hopes the article, coupled with new technology used by police air support units, will increase conviction rates.
The Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) has issued EASA/ENAC Part 145 certification to Venice, Italy-based Superjet International, allowing the regional jet marketing and support unit for the Sukhoi Superjet 100 to carry out maintenance, completion and customization activities. Plans call for Superjet International’s maintenance base in Venice to install the Superjet 100’s interiors and optional equipment.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department (HKCAD) have signed an enhanced memorandum of understanding (MoU) for aircraft maintenance. The MoU is an expansion of a 2004 reciprocity agreement that permitted MRO companies to maintain components of aircraft registered in either country without the need to obtain separate approval.

A French judge last month ordered Continental Airlines and five people–including aircraft designers, maintenance technicians and one civil aviation authority executive–to stand trial for manslaughter in the criminal investigation into the Concorde crash that killed 113 in July 2000 near Paris.
In the five years since Gulfstream established its maintenance center at London Luton, the facility has grown from 28,000 to 56,000 sq ft. Chelton Flight Systems of Boise, Idaho, last month received European Aviation Safety Agency approval for its FlightLogic avionics system for use in the Bell 206A, B, L and 407 light single-engine helicopters. The certification marked the first time EASA has granted approval for installation of Chelton’s synthetic-vision system, which provides a 3-D computer-generated view of the world on a flight display.
