Pratt & Whitney Canada is continuing with early development work for its planned New Generation Regional Turboprop.

Consensus is building among manufacturers and operators alike for a new 90-seat regional turboprop airliner, according to Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC), which is eager to press ahead with its plans for a New Generation Regional Turboprop (NGRT) engine.

A new study released last month by Newtown, Conn.-based Forecast International projects “restrained growth” in the regional airliner market over the next 10 years, stemming from such factors as major-airline consolidation. The study projects gradual and steady growth between 2013 and 2020, followed by a cyclical downturn in 2021 and 2022 that will negatively affect delivery numbers.

Ilyushin Finance Company (IFC) has won the approval of its shareholders and governmental bodies for recently signed deals on 50 Irkut МС-21s, 32 Bombardier CSeries and 20 Sukhoi Superjet 100s. “All three programs have been approved,” IFC general manager and co-owner Alexander Roubtsov told AIN.

Sukhoi claims its new long-range Superjet SSJ100-95LR regional jet is ideal for traveling relatively short distances and can carry 98 passengers on routes of 2,212 nm.

The newest version of the Sukhoi Superjet, SSJ100-95LR, first flown in February this year, has the suffix that is an abbreviation for Long Range, but some would argue that “Last Resort” might better describe the situation in terms of its significance to Russia’s aerospace industry.

The Brazilian company’s executive jets division unveiled this concept intended for both airlines and aircraft charter firms early last month.

Bombardier Aerospace announced last month that Nordic Aviation Capital of Billund, Denmark, has signed a firm purchase agreement to acquire four Q400 turboprops. Bombardier places the value of the contact, based on list prices, at $134.77 million.

Miami, Florida-based Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI) has launched a passenger-to-freighter conversion program for the Bombardier CRJ100 and CRJ200 regional jets, the company announced Thursday.

Bombardier Aerospace delivered 179 business jets last year, 16 more than in 2011. During this same period, the company received net orders for 343 business jets, compared with 191 for the previous year. “We are the market leaders in business aircraft, and the restructuring of our commercial aircraft sales organization is yielding results,” said Bombardier Aerospace president and COO Guy Hachey. “We are seeing positive momentum across our entire product portfolio,” which also includes regional jets.

Embraer delivered 40 aircraft in the third quarter, including 27 airliners and 13 business jets (11 light and two large jets), the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer announced yesterday. The company has shipped 129 aircraft in the first nine months–83 E-jet airliners and 46 business jets (40 light and six large jets)–which equates to 10 more airliners, but three fewer business jets, than it delivered in the same period last year.
