Boeing took another visible step toward full production of the 787 Dreamliner yesterday as it set the first steel column for its 787 final assembly and delivery facility in North Charleston, S.C.

Boeing announced yesterday that it will place its second final assembly line for the 787 Dreamliner in North Charleston, S.C., ending months of speculation over how and when the company’s standoff with the International Association of Machinists would end. Along with serving as a location for final assembly of 787 Dreamliners, the facility also will have the capability to support the testing and delivery of the airplanes.
Atlantic Aviation opened a new 6,000-sq-ft FBO terminal at Charleston Executive Airport in Johns Island, S.C. The new FBO terminal “incorporates the old-world features of low-country architecture and welcomes travelers with classic southern charm,” according to Atlantic Aviation. Atlantic Aviation has two FBOs in the Charleston area, at Charleston International Airport and Charleston Executive.
Shortly after its purchase by finance house Allied Capital earlier this year, Mercury Air Centers dedicated a new hangar and tenant office facility at Charleston International Airport (CHS) S.C. The 45,000-sq-ft complex is adjacent to Mercury’s existing terminal and incorporates a 23,000-sq-ft hangar bay with 28-foot-high doors that can accommodate large business jets, such as the Gulfstream V.
Mercury Air Services added a new hangar, shop space and tenant office structure last month to its FBO at Charleston International Airport, S.C. The new 23,000-sq-ft hangar bay with 28-foot-high doors can accommodate business jets as large as the Global Express. There is also a 15,000-sq-ft maintenance area and 7,000 sq ft of office and shop space.
