Now that NBAA’s Certified Aviation Manager (CAM) program is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, more people are interested in obtaining CAM certification and forming study groups to prepare for testing, according to Denise Wilson, president and CEO of Palm Springs-based Desert Jet. Wilson passed the CAM testing five years ago and is now a member of the CAM governing board, and she sees CAM certification as an excellent opportunity.
GA Telesis Composite Repair Group has received accreditation under ISO 9001/AS9110, Quality Management Systems-Requirements for aviation maintenance organizations as certified by QMI-SAI Global Certification Services. It covers the maintenance, repair and overhaul of aircraft nacelles and structural airframe parts. It also clears the way for the company to be listed in the Online Aerospace Supplier Information System (Oasis), the international aerospace database that publishes all quality certifications.
CFM International, the General Electric/Snecma joint venture, expects to begin a second phase of ground testing for its 3-D woven resin transfer molding fan with its Moteur à Aubes de Soufflante en Composite Taille (Mascot) 2 fan-demonstrator engine. The fan is “foundational technology” for the CFM Leap engine that is scheduled to enter service in 2016.

Continuum Applied Technology (Booth No. 2764) has announced the release of Version 10.5 of Corridor, its aviation service and maintenance software. Version 10.5’s qualifications module enables management and reporting of personnel certifications and qualifications and is designed for compatibility with regulatory authorities such as the FAA, EASA and China’s CAAC. “We worked closely with several Corridor customers to understand their qualification control requirements and developed the qualifications module directly from that feedback,” said Continuum president Jack Demeis.
Back when David Bernstorf was involved in certifying new aircraft and developing supplemental type certificates for his employer, he joked about backing up a truck onto the parking lot of the FAA certification office and dumping the huge volumes of paper that accompany any certification program. Joking aside, all of the paper can amount to a truckload. Assembling that volume of paperwork, not to mention finding one report in the huge pile, was a frustrating endeavor.
The wide-cabin Gulfstream G650 is expected to obtain provisional certification by year-end, the Savannah, Ga.-based aircraft manufacturer said this week at the NBAA Convention in Las Vegas. According to Gulfstream, tests of the G650’s fly-by-wire system, engine inlet compatibility and operation in hot weather, among others, have recently been completed.
Hawker Beechcraft received Brazilian certification for its Hawker 4000 business jet.
TSS Aviation, based in Cincinnati, and Standard Aero’s Maryville, Tenn. MRO facility have earned AS9100 and AS9110 certification, respectively. These certifications are the first received for the newly combined companies of Standard Aero, Landmark, TSS and Associated Air Center under the DAE Engineering Companies banner.
Aviation Research Group U.S. (ARG/US) awarded its first certified broker designation to Jets.com at the NBAA Schedulers and Dispatchers Conference in Savannah, Ga. last month. Jets.com is headquartered in Quincy, Mass., and has offices in Manhattan; White Plains, N.Y.; and Phoenix.
