After a year best described as challenging, flight-training provider FlightSafety International has seen an uptick in business since January and is adding another training site to its worldwide network, as well as several new training platforms at some of its locations. “We are seeing a little bit of life here in the first quarter,” said Eric Hinson, the company’s executive vice president.

American Eurocopter (AEC) has received FAA Level B and night-vision goggle (NVG) training certification for its AS350 full flight simulator in Grand Prairie, Texas. And yesterday, AEC announced that it signed a simulator training contract with the Texas Department of Public Safety, covering dry lease of the AS350 simulator. This will allow the department’s instructors to train DPS pilots.

If there is a symbol of success, Matt Jennings’ smile was it yesterday as he presented a briefing at Heli-Expo 2011on the Royal Aeronautical Society’s successful development of new criteria for the classification of civil helicopter flight simulation training devices (FSTDs) and announced that it is now in the hands of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

American Eurocopter recently unveiled a new full-motion flight and mission simulator for AS350 crew training tailored to EMS and law-enforcement ­applications. The simulator is based at the company’s Grand Prairie, Texas campus.

CAE’s expansion ­strategy is paying off. The Saint-Laurent, Quebec-based company (Booth No. 6903) has grown rapidly since it was founded in 1947 and now operates training facilities on six continents. It also offers enhanced services using technology tools to deliver training not only to aviation customers but also to the healthcare, mining/heavy equipment and energy industries.

SimCom Training Centers is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, as well as  the addition of new training programs and upgraded simulators. One new program–
the light jet familiarization course–is aimed at pilots who are thinking about transitioning to a light jet, which ties in perfectly with the new Light Business Airplane content at this year’s convention.

The European division of Women in Aviation International will be hosting its annual conference in Ferrara, Italy, from September 4 to 6. The focus of this year’s event is “transforming your life, company and industry for a better tomorrow.” Women in Corporate Aviation is sponsoring the registration of two full-time college students.
