Arinc and Norway telecommunications company Telenor have successfully completed ground testing of technology that lets passengers continue talking on their personal wireless phones after takeoff. The companies demonstrated the satellite-based concept at last month’s World Airline Entertainment Association conference, held September 20 to 24 in Seattle, and are holding talks with a number of airlines.

Jeppesen and Arinc Direct are pooling their resources to give corporate aviation customers the ability to uplink flight plans directly to an airplane’s flight management system. The service, available in the air or on the ground, eliminates the need for pilots to type flight plans into the FMS, cutting workload and reducing the risk of errors.

Weather data specialist Meteorlogix is stepping up efforts to get its line of aviation-related products out in front of corporate pilots. As the biggest provider of weather services to the airlines, the company already has a foothold in aviation, yet it admits that its name is not as well known in business aviation circles as that of its nearest competitor, WSI of Andover, Mass.

Arinc has flight tested a new differential-GPS precision approach and landing system designed to withstand electronic jamming. Conducted on April 5 at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico in an Air Force C-12J (the military version of the Beech 1900C), the tests evaluated the performance of Arinc’s developmental local-area differential GPS (LDGPS) landing aid.

Arinc and Aeromech have announced plans to offer RVSM upgrade packages to owners and operators of Cessna Citations, Beechjets and Hawkers. The packages will be available beginning this month for the Cessna Citation 650, Beechjet 400/Mitsubishi 300 and Hawker 700, according to the companies.

The Arinc Direct Mobile service features nearly all the flight-planning functions and features of the company’s existing Web-based portfolio.

Carlyle announced last month it had reached a “definitive agreement to acquire Arinc” from its current shareholders– a vast majority of which are domestic and foreign airlines.
