Arinc last month completed the first integration and testing of an eXchange/SkyLink broadband Internet system aboard a Boeing Business Jet. The installation combined Rockwell Collins’s eXchange satellite broadband avionics with Arinc’s SkyLink Ku-band satellite service.

Astro-Med (Booth No. 2093) is unveiling its new ToughWriter 5 flight-deck printer for business and regional jets. The new printer is the world’s smallest Arinc 744A flight-deck printer, measuring 7.3 inches deep and weighing less than nine pounds. Print quality is 300 by 600 DPI and speed is up to five seconds per page. The printer features built-in WiFi.

The new U.S. Customs and Border Protection requirement for aircraft operators to provide passenger manifest and aircraft information before departure for all international flights to and from the U.S. should be less of a chore thanks to a new electronic filing service offered jointly by NBAA and Arinc Direct Business Aviation Solutions.

NBAA has partnered with Arinc Direct to offer a new online tool to help members comply with U.S. Customs’ electronic Advance Passenger Information System (eApis) requirements. Customs requires aircraft operators to electronically submit passenger manifest and aircraft information before departure for all international flights to or from the U.S.

Business aviation flight services provider Arinc Direct has started offering electronic APIS (advanced passenger information system) reports for flights arriving or departing the U.S. and its territories. Effective May 18, U.S. Customs and Border Protection will require pilots of general aviation aircraft to electronically transmit passenger manifests at least 60 minutes before departure. APIS compliance until May 18 had been voluntary.

Arinc has adjusted the pricing structure for its datalink services by introducing a flat fee for global communications via VHF Inmarsat and Iridium. According to the company, this will reduce or at least stabilize costs for operators at a time when they can ill-afford to incur unexpected fees.

An indication of how expensive repairs are for a business jet caught in the output of a foam-based fire-suppression system can be found in a complaint Cessna Aircraft filed against Arinc. The lawsuit, filed on October 27, resulted from an incident that befell a Cessna-owned Citation X undergoing modifications at an Arinc facility at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City. Arinc is promoting its new onboard Internet (Oi) service for laptop computers here at the MEBA show (Stand No. 330). Launched in September for the commercial airliner market, Oi is also expected to appeal to business aircraft operators who want to provide online connections for their passengers.
