Fuel supplier BP announced today that it has ended its licensing agreement with Epic Aviation, its exclusive North American licensee for the Air BP brand, which distributes fuel to approximately 350 FBOs in North America. According to the announcement, BP intends to enter the U.S. general aviation business as a direct fuel supplier to FBOs.
BP has sold its share in Epic Aviation to Dallas-based aviation fuel services provider Downstream Aviation. Epic, which operates as Air BP Aviation Services, supports the fuel and business needs of the approximately 400 branded FBOs in the Air BP network. BP and Downstream have entered into an exclusive brand and supply agreement whereby Epic will continue to provide general aviation fuels under the Air BP brand in the U.S. and Canada.
Mike Delk has announced his retirement following 40 years leading Air BP Aviation Services (Booth No. 7903). In a release issued by Air BP, he said he intends to remain involved in the industry, but that he would like to spend more time with his family. Delk’s father bought what was the Valley Oil Company of Salem, Ore., in 1944, and later switched from producing home heating oil to avgas.

The new Air BP dealers are Altair Aviation, Laredo, Texas; Blair Airport near Blair, Neb.; Branson JetCenter at the new privately owned and funded Branson Airport in Missouri; Castle & Cooke’s Arlington, Wash. facility; and Five Star Jet Center at Barnes Municipal Airport in Westfield, Mass.
Fuel provider Air BP has released dates for its nationwide two-day safety and quality-control seminar series. Airport personnel, pilots, FBOs and flight department employees are invited to learn about current safety regulations with trainers Walter Chartrand and Dave Ware.
The UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is investigating the ditching of a Eurocopter EC 225 Super Puma in the North Sea on February 18. All 16 passengers and two crewmembers were rescued with minor injuries after the Bond-operated helicopter ditched near its destination oil platform. The accident took place in the ETAP field, about 130 nm east of Aberdeen, Scotland.

Fuel provider Air BP is offering an online training program for FBOs in the company’s USGA dealer network. The training was developed by Air BP and Aerostudies of Edmonton, Canada. Courses are designed to train FBO line service and customer service employees, using graphics, real-world scenarios, testimonials and day-to-day situations that they might encounter.
